after seeing what the chin bar and shield looked like after a crash I was happy that the helmet took the grinding the earth provided and not my face. Will always wear a full face helmet....
|
Full face absolutely. If you go flip top you may get wind noise but they are safe helmets. If you are going to do super slab use ear plugs ae well.
|
Full face, when not if you take your "fall" you will thank us.......

Modular Motorcycle Helmets:
https://www.revzilla.com/modular-motorcycle-helmets A full face that the front will rotate up. I have 3....The reason is I wear glasses...With a regular full face, you take glasses off each time you take helmet on/off. This means dropping your glasses more than you think. Fit is everything. A brand that fits me well, you may not like. Try it on before you buy. |

Full face for last 40+ years of riding. 3/4 for the first 10. Went to flip full face for last 15 or so years. Makes glasses and talking at gas stations, stop lights etc much easier. |
I would feel exposed and vulnerable w/o a full face. Then you need to decide what to spend for quality.
I finally bit the bullet last year & bought the Schuberth SR1 Technology - worth every penny of the $900 (on sale). If you can even find them anymore. Super light weight & gobs of ventilation...great for the Arizona summers...along with a pilot skull cap. Best helmet I've ever had...and I've had plenty in my 55 yrs. of riding. . http://www.gibson-barnes.com/prod-294121/Pilots-Skull-Caps.html . ~~~~~~~~~~ http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1485794683.jpg |
I've only crashed a bike once. That was in the late '60's coming home on a winding mountain road at three in the morning after a party and some drinking (yeah I know - a recipe for disaster. I was young & invincible at the time). Went to sleep (I think) on a turn. I had a Bell helmet with a face shield. That was before helmets were mandatory. The face shield popped off, but I didn't suffer any injuries. Right now I have both kinds, the full face for when I go for longer rides & the other for short hops to the post office of something similar.

I wear full face 90% of the time. When it's scorching hot and humid (Georgia) I'll wear a half helmet if going for a short ride on my naked bike (Bonneville) to cool off, with perf gear. I always wear earplugs.

Well, the community has spoken. Full face it is.
Now, I've been using Arai quantums for a decade or two. Time for a new one. When did their designs get so fruity? It's just manga barf over most of the things. |
|
Arai makes solid-color helmets too. I just purchased my 4th one in a medium metallic grey. My preferred metallic blue color got discontinued.

Helmet colors & foo foo..."fruity" >>> LOL.
. I used to buy a helmet to match (as closely as possible) the color scheme of a newly purchased bike...solid colors. At one time I had 7 helmets to match most bikes. Sometimes tough to do because I only bought the few high quality name brands. . I've never owned a black helmet, however, and probably never will. The last 7 or 8 helmets have all been white. It's my notion that a white helmet is cooler...and maybe easier to see by motorists - maybe not. But that's just me. 'Never been into those foo foo ones...nice to see, but not for me. |
I like something with a little flash. But recently it's like the ed hardy guy and a ten year old Japanese girl have taken over the styling department.
There's always solid silver as a fallback. |
Just a little subject change...
I'm thinking about wearing a Harbor Freight orange vest these days...bought years ago. Too much cage owner texting. Moto street riding use to be more fun...prior to cell phones. Now I'm so vigilant that the fun has decreased. Sometimes when I can't sleep, I'll go out at midnight and have my way with the roads - for old times sake. :) |

I see lots of orange and neon green vests on motorcyclists these days. Seems like a good idea... One of the editors at Cycle World thought so, too. So he decided to wear one every other day on his commute for one full summer. He jotted down his experiences every day, both with and without the vest. Much to his surprise, his "near misses" rose dramatically with the brightly colored vests. Much more so than he could attribute to chance. He thought it was possibly "target fixation" on drivers' parts. We tend to drive at what we are looking at. That's about all he could come up with, since the results were so counter-intuitive. He was convinced, going in, that he would "prove" bright vests save lives (I wanna see a sticker that says that...), but he "proved" just the opposite. To his satisfaction, anyway. |
I started wearing Scorpion helmets a few years ago. Top Snell rating, etc, fit my gourd and don't cost a fortune. May want to check it out before you give Shoei or Arai $700 for a $250 lid with their logo on the front.
