I have an Epson 2540 and do infrequent printing (maybe 20 pages a month). The ink cartridges are crap! They don't contain much at all and they go bad waaaay too fast.

Owning an ink jet printer any time after 2010 is like commuting in a Model-T.
Laser jet costs $95. Toner lasts almost forever. Refill kits are $5.
Spend the $95, and you will facepalm at how long you dicked around with garbage quality tools.

Thats a deal. My 2680 was $130, I think. I ran the install disc on m y Windows laptop and was printing instantly.. Very easy. Took a bit of work with linux but still worth the effort.

Nah, maybe for home products, because printing is reduced.
If you knew where the industry is heading.
I work for a major player in the field of office products.
In fact we are investing heavily into ink-jet.

Got a Brother Color Laser Printer/Scan/Copy/Fax/Wifi years and years ago for my home office. Got it back then because got sick of ink cartridges drying out and needed replacing every time I went to print. Bought a set of toner cartridges to have on hand and ended up selling them on Craiglist when I trash/recycled the printer at it's end of life.

Brother died only this past summer (streaking and found broken part inside). Replaced with Canon Color Laser Print/Scan/Copy/Fax/Wifi for under $200. Works great.

At work we have all laser printers because the total cost of ownership and per page printing is less. And we have a local company that maintains them on a per page cost as well. The local company that maintains them keeps track of the usage and keep us with an extra toner cartridge with each printer. They also keep them cleaned so we only have to call them if the printer has a quality or actual printing issue that needs attention which is not very often.

I have used Epson all in one inkjet printers both at home and in my office for years, because compatible 4 cartridge sets are so cheap($5 odd at set, yes) and they work and the price includes next day delivery service.

Haven't seen an ink jet in a corporate setting for over two decades. At least for traditional printing of TPS reports

The question is are you investing heavily because it's a better product or has higher margins?

It has some advantages like higher quality prints.
I am not talking about the desk-printers. I am talking about industrial printing.
