Peppy, I don't come by your way since my best bud sold his house outside of Richmond, but 5-6 years ago, I was cruising down the interstate and happened to pass by Manson....I was tempted to exit, find the TF, ask for Peppy, and hopefully get a free ice cream cone....but I didn't...mmmmm ice cream !

Aside from allowing the crazy infill development, what else is the city council up to that's causing the angst?

I just got home and asked my wife about it. She went into lengthy tirade about city council not being business friendly. Citing increasing property taxes for businesses by 30% or something this year, not wanting to implement security measures like the closed circuit cameras in the downtown mall (which police and business owners wanted) for the Hannah Graham murders/muggings etc, but yet they are perfectly willing to spend 700K not including legal fees on moving some civil war statue. She also mentioned something about nearly about just about being separated from county court revenue by continuing to do something wrong, etc...etc... Meadowcreek expansion taking 43 years... At which point I put on my bike gear and went riding!
Eating dinner with her dad the other night, he stated Albermarle was "It's not who you know... It's who you blow!"
Something like that. Sounds like typical city council stuff.

If you have serious money horse country in Va is stunning. Great driving roads and some culture. Visited Staunton a couple times and enjoyed it. There was an uber hip pcar shop there some years back.

I think you have to really want to live that life to be happy in a place like that. I too enjoy a mix of crunchy in the area particularly for the food and general resistance to Walmart culture.

So how is the bug situation? One of the greatest things about the bay area is total lack of biting bugs, what am I in for? Do you need a lanai like in Florida? How about the humidity? There is none out here in the bay. Is it a sweatbox? Need to run the AC all the time? Those things have a major impact on lifestyle to me.

I grew up in mostly in Southern California but my whole extended family are from all points of the Bay Area; I went to school in the Bay Area.

Here is the deal, at least in Maryland: 8 months out of the year I love the weather, the variety of seasons, etc. The other 4 months, summer, are heinous.

Yes there are bugs, lot of bugs: Bugs With Attitude (BWA), Bugs in the Hood, Redneck Bugs, No-See-Um's and others.

But the flys are worse.

Yes it is humid. In the summer the air here is near liquid. You'll sweat like Rosanne Barr on Dancing With the Stars. There is no escape from the dampness of a dew point in the 300% range.

Google Jock Itch and Heat Rash.

Enjoy

Stinkbugs galore. Humidity galore. I had a girlfriend in college who lived near the Martinsville area. Her parents lived in Meadows of Dan. She lived in Woolwine and Rocky Mount, Va, and worked at Fairy stone state park near Martinsville. There was something about the August humidity there that sucked the life out of you. This is said by someone who was from Richmond, and I could notice a difference. A very damning humid down there.

Edit- The humidity there isn't so much a cause of Jock Itch - The humidity there IS JOCK ITCH, stagnating above a warm death mask of Kudzu.

Everything is relative....I would suggest you spend the month of Aug. in Tampa when the noseeums are swarming before deciding to relocate however. It's not quite that bad
