Someone referred to me as a silver fox.
(not often seen outside of captivity)

Who knew that was a thing??

It takes a lot longer to pee, I have ear hair, and....hey, kid! Get off my lawn.

stevej37 03-31-2017 10:53 AM

When talking directions...you mention N.S.E.or W. and the person looks at you with a blank stare.
Compass directions are a foreign language to most younger people.

pwd72s 03-31-2017 11:21 AM

For me, it's all of the above. What's really sad is that by the time you've lived long enough to know a few things, young people don't want to hear it.

Pump Jocky asked why the Bullitt name on my Mustang. I explained it was the character name of a cop played by Steve MCQueen who drove a dark green Mustang in the movie of the same name.

Then he asked: "Who's Steve McQueen"?

Yep, I'm old...

WTF, I haven't seen a full service gas station since i've been driving (42 years now). I can't imagine having to tip some tool for what I can do myself.....evidently these must be in high dollar areas, where most of the liberal minded drivers don't want to "soil" their suits, or soft manicured hands.

stevej37 03-31-2017 12:50 PM

I think it's more of a safety issue. People driving off with the nozzle still in the car, overfilling and spilling, things like that.

stevej37 03-31-2017 12:52 PM

I was in Long Island a couple years ago and stopped to fill up. I knew nothing about their laws and tried to fill the car myself. The attendant nearly tackled me when I had the fill hose in my hand!

i remember the outrage when Van Halen tickets were 12 bucks, up from 8 bucks the year before

Worked at a full service gas station in high school.

It's the law in Oregon. You can be fined for pumping your own here. I would beg to be allowed to pump my own with the old 911S.

I also worked in a full service station at age 15 at night and on weekends. There were certain women who came in who I really enjoyed washing their windshields for. I think they knew what was going on and liked giving the kid a bit of a thrill.

I filled up today at a station that is part full service and self serve. I get out and open the tank cover and take off the gas cap when a girl about 17 comes up and asks "can I help you?" I said "If you work here I'd like a full tank of petrol". Her eyes sort of go blank and she goes "errrrrrrrrrrrrrhhhhhhh" I say " fill it up, regular" and she stopped that annoying noise and smiled. I guess she had never heard of "petrol" before. :)

And at the other end of the spectrum:
I also worked at a full service station, nights, weekends, and the summers while I was in high school in the early 70's. There was one certain woman, Mrs. Holzman, who used to frequent the Texaco station. I worked there with friends, and whenever we saw her come in, we'd shoot for who'd have to wait on her. Mrs. Holzman drove a big black 65 Chrysler Imperial coupe, wore very short skirts with fishnet stockings, and no panties.
Sounds appealing, no? Problem was, she was about 70 at the time, and she loved to show you the goods while you were washing her windshield. What has been seen, cannot be unseen. At least you got a thrill, I got bad dreams.

When there is more grey then anything else...but at least there is hair.

When you wake up and your back is sore...for no reason then you woke up.

When you can't sleep in because you wake up to piss and you can't get back to sleep.

When you wear a jacket when its 65 out.

When you turn down the music in the car.

When having dinner at 4:30 is very doable.

When people you went to HS are dying of things old people used to die of like heart attacks and strokes.

When your kids are old enough to have kids.

Then your an ol coot!

You're an old coot when you start talking about people who they have no clue about or who were dead before the other person was even born.

"Yep...yep, old Jimmy Smith had the farm down yonder, he was quite a character, you remember Jimmy don't ya?? He died back in 1958 or was it 59? .....anyways...."

Too funny, Dave. The station I worked in was a Richfield that sold gas with TCP additive in it. I asked the owner what TCP was, and he said it was tom cat pee. Working there I learned to pump gas, do brake jobs, tune ups, maintenance, balance tires, etc.,etc. Some customers would ask for me to wait on them.

Lived in OR ten years, have never tipped any gas station attendant, and they don't expect it.

I'm not sure why the mandatory full service here, but I find it pretty convenient and gas is still cheaper than other west coast states.

Ha! Years ago when I was in my 40s, I'd go to my friend's mom's restaurant and get take out. Sometimes he's be working, other times his hot sister would be working. After paying for my food, she said, "Thank you, sir!" I was like, "Sir? You don't need to call me sir." She replies, "My mother taught us to always address my elders with respect." http://forums.pelicanparts.com/suppo...eys/spankA.gifhttp://forums.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/uzi.gifhttp://forums.pelicanparts.com/suppo...ys/mgwhore.gif
