the Tribute band?
this past weekend, my wife dragged me to Eureka CA for their annual Redwood music festival. i was skeptical. especially after i saw the "last hotel room available" in the city. whoa! it was okay and cheap..and we were never there anyways. ..we parked the car there and bailed on foot for two days.the music was mostly jazz..big band jazz stuff. the music went on and on
it was crazy just going from venue to venue watching bands you know ZERO about. there was some insane tromboning going on..i played the cursed thing and didnt know it could do that! at least not with me. what we did see was a Johnny Cash tribute. the dude was GOOD! he didnt act like him..he did wear all black and sang like him. maybe better? we found the same guys in a hotel bar just jamming..doing killer rockabilly stuff. my wife did recently drag me kicking and screaming to an ABBA tribute band..i am no ABBA expert, but if you lied to me and told me they WERE abba..i would have believed you..they mimicked the band perfectly..from what i remembered. (my dad RIP, loved ABBA - i was a tiny kid and was not allowed to touch the 8-track or kick it dead ![]()

I was always sorry that I never got to see Pink Floyd in concert, so I thought I'd take a chance on one of the many tribute bands that do their material. Seeing Brit Floyd play live had to be the next best thing to the real deal. These guys were incerdible!
If you like Pink Floyd's music and would enjoy seeing it performed live, go see this band if their summer tour plays a venue anywhere near you. I guarantee that you won't be disappointed.

I have tickets for Brit Floyd at the Warfield in SF in June. It's not far from Santa Cruz, dude!

If you like Pink Floyd, you're in for a real treat. I'll be at the Mountain Winery show in Saratoga on June 29th.

I'd like to go see Brit Floyd, but saw the real Pink Floyd twice back in the 80s/90s, i'm afraid I would notice the flaws from the original........ i'm kinda of a snob on music.
I am going to see 3 bands up in the old Pine Knob Michigan open amphetheater this July that should be good, one is Foreigner, Cheap Trick, and a Led Zeppelin tribute band who has Jason Bonhan as drummer.....amazingly, I am looking forward much more to seeing Jason Bonham, than the the other two bands (something about the way he played with Led Zeppelin on Celebration Day)! |

Live music is mesmerizing to me.
The best tribute bands I have ever seen were in the Philippines. I may have had a few San Miguel's, but close my eyes and I couldn't stop that lovin' feeling.

I saw Pink Floyd perform Umma Gumma, Dark Side, and Animals. They didn't perform The Wall near me or I would have seen it as well. Yeah I'm old. Yeah I've done acid..
Brit Floyd is good but not the same...

Have never seen Brit Floyd, but after watching that video, I might have to.
He did the guitar solo quite well...surprised me how well.

Was the Cash tribute band "Cashed Out"? I saw them about (4) weeks ago, and he didn't try to mimic the look, but damn, did he sound like Cash.

Mrs URY and I have been taking in some classic rock concerts in the last year. Many only have a few, 1 or 2 original members. These guys are in their late 60's and the life style has taken a toll on them. Some don't have the original lead singers. They are basically tribute bands to themselves.

I did get to see PF do the Wall (my least favorite PF album) but it was an awesome show.
Saw a Beatle tribute band at the Ventura Strawberry festival, they did a good job of looking the part and even better job on the music... but the fake English accents between songs made me cringe. Also saw Beatlemania and This is Elvis in Vegas, both were great shows. One of the music channels has a show with tribute bands... it is monumentally bad.

Agree with the above - I could listen to *****ty music live as seeing musicians play and sing moves me more than good music played through some device.........

Brit Floyd is playing Red Rocks this year just a few weeks after our own Gogar, looks like I'm spending a lot of time in the city this summer.

Unfortunately, every currently active popular (read : worth a hoot) tribute band plays music from the bands I actually saw live in the '70's and '80's. I was a real concert junkie for over 20 years, and saw too many of these acts for real to ever settle for any "tribute" band. I would much prefer to see current bands playing their own music.
