tcar, no big deal, didn't lose any money, in my college days I would buy those 122s Volvo's for cheap cuz the nylon timing gear stripped, put a new one in and double my money.

I had a buddy that bought one in HS, it was sooo sllloooowwww. Slower and less powerful than our 1976 Chevette, 1.4L w/52hp. Turned out it had a cracked head or blown head gasket that he discovered after not much ownership.

Best was a 1971 Ford Torino GT Convertible that was partially restored. I finished it, drove it for a couple of years and doubled my money when I sold it. The worst was a 1994 Chrysler Concorde, bought new, stayed at the dealer more that at my house! We refer to the Concorde as "The Car of Which We do Not Speak"!

Worst car ever.
1977 Dodge Aspen R/T with a 318 2 barrel, 4 speed overdrive complete with t-tops. The car rotted out in 2 years.

I have been pretty fortunate with cars.

1998 Integra was pretty darn good. 14 years of trouble free service, made nice sounds when you rapped it up to 8000 rpm, pretty big trunk and a big enough backseat. Insurance was surprisingly expensive. Current daily is a hoot too, turbo miata, they don't call it The Answer for nothing.

Ford Tempo was not great, but what do you want for $2500

Best: 1971 Volvo 142E. Got me through 4 yrs of college, 2 trips to Fla, and 2 yrs of work after college.

Worst: 1980 Chevy Citation X11. Bought new after getting married. Went through 2 transmissions under warranty (manual, no less) and a head gasket after warranty. Some fool stole it, luckily. What a POS.

Integra and Honda Civics are at the top of the list for stolen and crashed cars in our area. It's the VTEC, yo!

Best financial car purchase by far would be the flatbed truck.

Favorite car purchase would be the 911 Carrera. I'm really liking the Cayman however.

I don't really have a worst. The BMW 320i that I drove in college was super reliable. The plastic interior was made of some strange brittle plastic like bakelite or something. It made me never want another BMW again, but that car lasted forever.

None of my cars killed me financially (not going to count the '87 celica I blew a motor in because that was my fault entirely) but my '13 suburban was potentially the worst. Loved to drive it, loved the look, hated that it was drinking oil at 60k miles.

Worst: 1972 Datsun 240Z
Best: 1978 Datsun 280Z and of course 1979 930

I bought a '72 240Z the day I turned 16 and had no idea what rust was. I bought it for $1,600 hard earned dollars and sold it to a junk yard a few months later for $400. A couple of incidents in the car: 1. A front suspension link broke when it rusted through while driving down the highway, luckily I didn't crash. 2. At a high school party some hot chick in a brand new chevy blazer liked my car and wanted to drive it so we traded cars. I was following her in the 240 with me in her blazer when the 240Z driver door flew open as she went through a turn, fortunately she didn't fall out. She must have been pretty drunk because she thought it was hilarious. What a piece of crap that thing was. When I was looking for my next Z car about 10 years later, I swear one of the rust buckets I looked at was owned by the same couple that sold me the rust bucket 10 years earlier!

The '78 280Z was great because I bought a really clean car and had great fun with it for many years. I lost money on it mainly because I spent so much money modifying it but it was well worth it.

And of course any air cooled Porsche you bought many years ago was a great buy.

Worst, Chevy Cavalier ... used, very, very clean, with Ziebart protection but never in snow or ice, as always a Florida car. Bought from older couple. Within two years the passenger door rusted off hinges. The pot metal shift lever cracked in half twice. And, the clutch safety switch failed. Car was always well cared for and never thrashed.

Best ? Not to jinx things, 2004 Toyota Sequoia 202,000 miles and only routine maint. / tire changes.

Current 1982 911SC cab, about 67k, absolutely immaculate and incredible. Traded a minty Roush Mustang for it in March 2016. Even if I wanted to sell it, I don't think my wife would let me.




1993 Mazda RX7, I've put a massive amount of work into this car, but how can you complain about owning one of your teenage legends?

1993 BMW 325i, interior fell apart, transmission started making noise, replaced all of the suspension bushings, a million other issues. This was from an enthusiast owned and well maintained car.




1995 BMW 318is, fun little car with a supercharger and M3 suspension, but like my other E36 it basically fell apart around me. Also stranded me on I35 just N of Dallas. No picture, good riddance.

2003 Mini Cooper S, again a fun car that fell apart around me. Probably the most snap together POS I have ever worked on. No picture, good riddance.
