Motorcycle Jack
What recommendations do you guys have for a Motorcycle jack? Will use on a Harley.
Thanks |

Harbor Freight.

Minor stuff oil change...detailing.....

Cheap transmission jack from HF in whatever weight rating needed. Not good for oil changes on most bikes because the drain plug would be blocked by the jack platform. Don't need to raise a bike to change oil anyways, though.
A proper MC bench/table is the best. I created a thread a while back about building one, asking questions, etc. Wound up building it myself w lumber and heavy plywood. Gave it to my friend after I finished job on my bike, (he was letting me use his shop), pretty sure it's his favorite work table and he has all of the expensive MC lifts and jacks. |
THis one:
Next time, I'd make it half a foot longer. Otherwise perfect.

Pretty nice RS there Denis. No, very nice RS. New addition or lost love?

I have a harbor freight ATV jack. It's cheap crap. It bleeds down & the safety catches don't catch. Replaced with a J&S Motorcycle Lift, pure awesome.

I have a craftsman ATV jack that gets used for a lot more than just my ATV. It works well and I've picked up the Harley with it. It honestly never needs work so I haven't felt the need to get a dedicated motorcycle lift or jack. I have the aluminum stands for the dirt bikes.

About 15 years old and zero defects. Did I buy it at Sears?...can't remember.
But around $100 back then. Aluminum frame jack...1,500 lbs. capacity. . And yes, it's in my sun room...too hot in an AZ garage these days. . PS I use this for motorcycles mostly...now & then to lift one side of a car/SUV. And yes, I must have gotten it from Sears...it's a Craftsman. . ~~~~~~~~~~~ http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1496529965.jpg |
I have several of the harbour freight bike lifts and even use two ( one on each side) to lift my 944 and 911 no problems handling the weight.

That is exactly like mine Don

A hundred years ago I built this stand. The ramp slides inside the stand.
Tools can be stored under the platform inside of the stand itself. Hinged "Wings" on both sides. Super handy rig...just need space for it. I stood mine on end when not in use. It's heavy. . I ought to still have the plans somewhere in a file cabinet, but they're in this link. Super solid but I couldn't say what the wt. limit might be. It held my 500 lb. BMW R1100S without flinching. Sold it for $60 when I sped outa CA in '08. . http://www.midnightfantasy.com/cyber/workstand/ . http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1496538945.jpg . http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1496538976.jpg |
Harbor Freight MC jack blow chunks. Ive had two. Flimsy and leak. (I do use HF for some things) Ive also had 2 craftsman MC jacks. Way better. At least they were when I got mine. Latest is over 5 years old.

If you can find an honest to God *made in USA* jack from 30+ years ago, it's a red letter day. The hydraulics can be rebuilt for pennies, (o-rings), the rest is built to last and a pleasure to own and use. |
