College Baseball

Oregon State Beavers are headed to the college world series with the nation's top win-loss record of 54-4 for the season. They just sent Vandy home with a 9-2 final score. This was with Vandy's Ace on the mound.

Loved one of the ESPN announcer comments near the game's end: "Yes, the Beavers ARE that good."

Florida over Wake last night and will play second game this afternoon....

The Ducks are amazing! They will win it handily. My nephew pitched it the DII world series run-up for UConn Avery Point last week and got shelled. He's playing in a league in VA this summer. Best baseball is college (or AAA) IMO.

There's a funny aside about Ducks baseball. Ducks focused on football & track alone until the Beavers won the College World Series back in 2006. This miffed "Uncle Phil" Knight, so he opened up his wallet, built the facilities in Eugene, forked over for scholarships. Presto, a Ducks baseball team. Poor "Uncle Phil". He's poured billion$ into University of Oregon Sports with facilities, fancy uniforms, all of it. Still not the national championship he's so desperately wants.

The 2006 CWS winning Beavers team actually recruited themselves. There was a high school players thing over in Central Oregon one summer. Some of these kids jelled into buddies...thinking they were pretty good, they all agreed to go to Oregon State in the hope of making the College World series. Probably the most notable of this group is Jacoby Ellsbury, plays center field for the Yankees.

Two words......"Oregon cheerleaders"......enough said!

Geaux Tigers!!

pwd72s 06-11-2017 01:47 PM

Back in the stone age, my 8th grade in grade school year. my dad had season tickets to the Beavers home Basketball games. I remember thinking that college cheerleaders sure did look hot. Now that I'm an old man of 73? My opinion remains the same.

Shuie? It's always great to root for the underdog. Don't know if I'd suggest betting that way though. ;)

Yesterday Cal state Fullerton beat the long beach state dirtbags to advance to their 18th college world series.
My oldest brother pitched in their first back in the 70's.

This was him playing for the Durham Bulls:

That's weird, I didn't even know the ducks were still in it!

They aren't. It's just that when many in other states think of college athletics in the state of Oregon, they think of Eugene's University of Oregon Ducks instead of Corvallis and the Oregon State University Beavers.

Probably the hype created by a willing media and "Uncle Phil" Knight of Nike fame.

This guy was on the Durham bulls that same year ....

He played in the majors 16 years and was an all-star in 91 and 97.
He's a coach for the marlins now ...

Career:
Batting average .290
Hits 2,375
Runs batted in 578
Stolen bases 558

I'm not a sports fan of any kind. So my only contribution to this thread would be that this is my nephew:

Thanks for that...just printed it. :)

11 strikeouts and 7 shutout innings from UF's Alex Faedo in their 3-0 win over TCU.

Today at 2 p.m. ET elimination game between Florida State and Cal State Fullerton. Then at 7 p.m. ET, tune in for a battle between the two longest active win streaks with Oregon State and LSU fighting in the winners' bracket.

Hopefully I'll be out of the dentist in time to tune in. Beavers scared us in the Cal State Fullerton game. I thought they were going to lose until they turned it around late. Sure not going to predict any winners in this. Anybody who makes it to the college world series is one hellofa good team.

Well your game tonight with LSU will pit two teams with the longest winning streaks against each other.

Something has to give.

Should be a hell of a game!

I love the Tiger 2nd baseman, Cole Freeman. Reminds me so much of Charlie Hustle!

Baz 06-19-2017 06:33 PM

HalfAssU took the early game today which sends CSF home.

Beavers just got a grand slam and so far (through 6 innings) they are shutting out the Tigers 8-0. Bad luck with the LSU pitchers.....but those Beavers are damn good...wow....

pwd72s 06-19-2017 08:18 PM

Beavers now 56-4 for the season. Better bullpen than I thought. LSU must gather it up for another game on Wednesday. One of the announcers said it well...miss a detail in your game, the Beavers will pounce. Better athletes overall on the LSU team...better coaching on the Beavers....they play pretty much no mistakes baseball.

I quit watching at 13-1. Too painful to see the camera on LSU fans.
