Any risk in posting VIN?
I want to sell one of my vehicles (no, not my 911). I want to give porential buyers every oportunity to research the vehicle to their hearts content and so am wondering if there is any risk to posting the VIN in the ad on Craigslist?

Anybody that walk by your car can see your VIN.
If you are not comfortable with the full VIN, replace the last 3 digit with XXX

Ya, I get that; same as licence plates.
No sense in putting xxx in last 3 digits: they wouldn't be able to run a Carfax. I'm just wondering if there is a scam angle to posting VIN; I would think it's not an issue. Some people here however have good experince to draw from, so I'm asking.

Just post it. I just sold one of my trucks on eBay and CL. eBay requires the VIN, there are millions of them on there. Someone scammed my ad from CL, (without the VIN), and posted it in Colorado for half the price.
The genius somehow left my phone # in the ad and I got the calls. I sold the truck. Who cares.
