Hilton Head ideas?

I'll be going down to the Hilton Head soon with my better half and my daughter (well- both better half'es halves,whatever.. ). We'll be leaving from approximately Charlottesville Va., going down rt 29, into the netherworld of NC, eventually re-emerging onto the ultra-netherworld of SC 95, and staying on the Island for a week. My unattended house will be guarded by a rabid pit bull who likes to impregnate strangers.

A friend of mine who recently is currently being expatriated/deported for "domestic" purposes (read- relationship) from Virginia... He's a genuinely good guy. (he owns property in HH- including the condo we are renting) will be on the island as well. Looking for suggestions for the family, AND so I can possible introduce my friend who is exploring his new winter season home (and not just investment portfolio) some new cool places to go for all of us to enjoy. He is keen on some of the breakfast places on the sound/bay side. I thought it would be cool if I could suggest something new he hadn't experienced before to get him excited about his latest trek. Even is it is off island- Beaufort, etc.... I would really like to have some cool places to suggest. We will be in Palmetto Dunes.
(heck- I'd even go to that place called Geeorrgiaa.....)

Any ideas?

Thanks!
Ron

Netherworld???? Bite me . No suggestions on HH, but the past few years, I've been taking I73 (still not 100% complete) to connect to I95....includes about 45 minutes on some country roads and a few small towns, avoiding Charlotte and Columbia....much faster from here. I can give you the route if interested.

When you get past G'boro, take I74 (I73, or 220) same highway down to Rockingham, where the Interstate ends. Don't follow the signs there for I74 however, continue straight on 1 (52/401) through Cheraw, Society Hill, Darlington and pick up I95 at Florence....thems the netherworld.....but a much better route. Look on googlemaps...if it isn't clear I'll lie some more....netherworld....humph

If you're into history Beaufort/St Helen has the penn center, which about the local Gullah heritage. Also have fort Fremont, which a Fort used in the Spanish-American War in the 1890s. Downtown Beaufort has historic horse-drawn buggy tours. We have old Sheldon church ruins. If you're food people downtown Beaufort has a bunch of restaurants. We also have one of the last drive-ins on the east coast.
I think you can tour paris island, where marine training is.
The only restaurant that I would suggest is in Bluffton it's called Squat & Gobble off the beaten path. It's a hole in the wall but the food is pretty good.
Other than that most people come for the beach.

Squat n Gobble is some good, hole in the wall, diner food.
Fat Patties is a good family friendly atmosphere and pretty good burgers.
If you're up for a drive, Fort Pulaski and Old Fort Stewart are pretty interesting.
If you like cigars, Bluffton has a great cigar bar.
Skull Creek Boathouse, on HHI, is decent food/price and great water views, especially at dusk.

I lived on HHI for years and live in Savannah now, if you need any specific recommendations, just shoot me a PM.

Not Me! I'll clear 28' and that bridge is some where around 30/32' at high tide. but if it aggravates you I'll see if I can get it opened more often! LOL.

+1 for Skull creek...that seems to be a popular place for the locals. I really like for lunch: Java Burrito, Black Marlin, and Watsui. For dinner, I enjoy Franky Bones---one of my favorites. Other places, Pomodori, Ombra are other good suggestions. The Oyster factory is also popular.

Fat Patties is a good place to go, too, in Old town Bluffton I believe?

Enjoy the trip. I've only been here in HHI for two years and am still finding places all the time to go. Safe travels.

Yeah, if you could hour on the hour would be great. Always open when I have places to get to!! haha
Downtown Beaufort is a mess right now, feel sorry for anyone coming into town. the bridge doesn't make it any better.

Beaufort is on the way to Savannah. Worth a visit. Other direction is Charleston. Gotta go there too. Have fun.

take a ride thru beaufort.
the steamer use to be a good place to eat.
there is/was a BBQ place out towards 95 around gardens corner that my brother really liked.

you can get back on 17 and run thru myrtle beach.
landolfies in pawleys island has an AWESOME pizza.

you could also jump on 41 and take it down to Charleston then get on 17 to beaufort.

lots of backroads driving

we just came back from Raleigh to myrtle bch backroads, 110 for a a while until I ran up behind a cop. no ticket.
