Whether or not you are in favor of them......doesn't really matter to those who have them.
People mostly get tattoos to be different. They are a way to add to one's 'wardrobe' in a very personal way and one that will set that person apart from everyone else. I didn't read the article in the OP's post so not sure what their take is, but this is how I see it.

Personally, I think tatoos are vulgar, because they are reminiscent of jail culture. When l see tatooed people, I automatically think white trash, or gang members.
Plus, as I just read in the linked article, that can load your system with heavy metals...really not a smart choice For the long term. Of course, we are talking big tatoos here. The little ones can be ok, I guess...

I work in a hospital.
I see all walks of life everyday. Today a women got on the elevator with me wearing flip flops. She had a ice cream cone tated on her foot. WTF?

What I find ironic is that the tough biker crowd chooses to have tattoos all over their bodies, and then wear the same looking clothes, all ride basically the same bike, and travel in packs.....some originality huh ?

"Hey, let's all get tats and be different!" It's like the hippies of the '60s all growing their hair long to express their individuality. I had long hair. Yes, I was a slave to fashion. I was not different.

I've seen some women that were still beautiful with their tats. It was a different kind of beautiful from an elegant lady in a lovely evening gown tastefully ready for a night out, but still beautiful. I don't have a problem with tats, but I don't have any. If you're going to get them, don't get just any old guy to do them, search out someone that's an artist.
I've certainly seem a bunch (some in person, and a bunch online) that seemed like REALLY bad decisions. And, unfortunately, those decisions aren't as easy to fix as a scrotum hanging from your trailer hitch.

The individuality thing comes from how the tattoo looks and where it is located. I'm not taking sides...just pointing out my observations from an anthropological view point.

![]() Seriously though....traditionally bikers belong to the club where they are welcomed by others of the same ilk.....that's the draw....they are accepted, regardless of looks or behaviour, pretty much.

![]() Typical responses from the demographic that populates Pelican...and there is an ongoing tirade about how people park. ![]() I'm in my late 50's and learned when I was in my formative years not to judge people by appearance... Seriously, since has been mentioned earlier in the thread.. people have been getting inked for millenia...Why is it such a taboo? When I first visited China in 2008 , my wife and I joked about getting a tattoo, so we did... Not sure if I got some bio hazardous ink used but ... she translate the Mandarin and we got ying yangs... I'm not ashamed nor do I really give a hoot what other think when they see it.. It was my decision, and has not affected my ability to make a living... Then again I have held a job with the same company for going on 35 years.....

Seems to me that non-perm tats would be cooler. Like haircuts. Mohawk anyone?
Have whatever item of flair.. maintain it if you like it. Let it fade if not. Else it's like bad refrigerator art set on concrete.

![]() My tattoo, wherever it is and whatever it "means" kinda generally flicks boogers at people who say that tattoos are only on bad people. As long as none of you see me nekkid, what's the problem?

It must be about 6 months since the last "all tattoo'd people are trash thread" on Pelican came up.
What do old grumpy white guys do all day besides put people in groups and judge them?
