Atomic Blonde

I saw it last night. I thought it was entertaining. Charlize Theron, what's not to love about her. Also, James McAvoy brings something to the table as well as John Goodman and a couple of the other actors. And even though I wasn't a huge fan of 80s music in the 80s, I seem to enjoy it now so I thought the soundtrack was good. It's not a deep movie or anything, but more like a female Bourne set in cold war Berlin with all of the spy stuff that would entail (including a lesbian sex scene). Good stuff.

If you dig late 80s music, I think you'll like the soundtrack.

I've read that the critics complained about the pacing and some of the writing, and my son said the first twenty minutes seemed a little slow to him. I'd like to see it again.

According to Wikipedia, Charlize Theron trained pretty hard for the action.

Quote:

To prepare for the role, Theron worked with eight personal trainers, who "basically made [her] puke every single day." During the process, Theron cracked her teeth from clenching her jaw and had to get them fixed in surgery. As Theron's training for the movie overlapped with Keanu Reeves' training for John Wick Chapter 2, the two developed a competitive relationship, which included sparring together.

I'm looking forward to this. I plan to see it with my son.

She was brilliant in "Mad Max: Fury Road". She really made that movie what it was. Without her it could have been a real stinker.
She was OK in "Hancock" but what struck me the most is how she looked aged in that and yet she looks smoking hot in the clips above.

Didn't do much for me.

I think it was a very good but not a great film. Sort of Jason Born and Jack Reacher crossed with a bit of Roger Moore Bond. The good was the visuals, the sound track, the action and the actors. Some of the visual comedy was awesome, especially in the early part of the film before it got too dark. The basic plot is what let it down. the ridiculous premise of a list of assets in risk of falling in to the hands of bad guys is a too often used and way out of date trope plus towards the end they started throwing in plot twists just to make it feel clever. I can forgive all that as I accepted going in as just a fun in your face action/spy flick set in a great era. And just because the super spy hero is a heroin doesn't mean she can't be a womanizer too. Zero complaints about Charlize Theron and Sofia Boutella.

Hot female John Wick meets Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy.

Worth it for the tits alone, some serious action and eye candy with a few twists.

Agreed... On the same w/e I saw Dunkirk (was very dissapointed with the Spitfire gliding for miles and miles from 500 fr AGL ;-( Then saw Atomic blonde and enjoyed it thoroughly - good cheering up after the bleak Dunkirk, it helps that I saw Berlin in 89, and the music from that era, the 964, Charlize is never bad to look at.... One could do much much worse... I'll watch it again.

Saw it opening weekend and really enjoyed it. I purchased the soundtrack, which really complements the movie. I preferred Atomic Blonde's use of music far more than Baby Driver. To me the movie was a lot of fun but it wasn't quite up to John Wick. Still I'd pay to watch a sequel, but I doubt one happens. I'll buy it on UHD.

Ah, yes, I'd nearly forgotten about the 964. It made me pine for the days when I still had my old 3.2L Carrera.

I very much enjoyed it. The hand to hand combat was well choreographed, I like the idea of a tough female operative, and I've always been a fan of Charlize. She can play anything well and look like anything as well. I really liked her in Prometheus, as well as the movie itself.

john wick 1 or 2?

icemann427 08-15-2017 07:47 AM

I would think it would be John Wick I. I thought II was a waste of time...

Shaun @ Tru6 08-15-2017 07:47 AM

Saw it, enjoyed it, fun, thought the music and how it was used was the best part of the movie.

feel the same way.

John Wick 1

And I enjoyed John Wick 2, but I've found that quite a few people didn't appreciate the world building in the sequel and would have preferred just another repeat of the first movie.
