Distinguished Gentleman's Ride.
Distinguished Gentleman's Ride. A motorbike ride to raise money for prostate cancer research.
It was a bit of a laugh last year. I heard the roar of over 400 motorcycles coming past the house and went out to look. It looked like a reenactment of (movie) Quadrophenia with all the riders dressed as mods or rockers heading to Brighton Beach for a showdown. Plus a couple of dozen girls on scooters dressed in pink LOL. I've just registered for the Wellington NZ part of the world wide ride taking place on 24 September. Here is the link to the ride taking place somewhere near you https://www.gentlemansride.com/rides/united+states/los+angeles%2c+ca Thanks, and every dollar helps. |

I did it the ride here in Los Angeles last year. Probably 700 bikes riding through the streets with police escort. Mainly modern Triumphs but also a few classics. It's a good cause and it's a fun ride if there is one near you. I'm not participating this year since some moron knocked me off my bike and destroyed it back in January.

Good on you. This will be the first year for me. I'm not getting too involved just sponsering myself with twenty bucks and do the ride.
Pity about the Commando

Hmm, I might do the ride this year - my vintage Guzzi would be perfect...

Good to hear guys - excellent.
I went to the opp' shop and girl thought it was a bit odd I was trying on suit jackets and white shirts over the top of my motorbike jacket LOL She said she loved the sound of the Distinguished Gentleman's Ride and couldn't wait to tell her dad (very sweet girl). So I'm going for the suit and tie look, leather jacket on underneath in case it's cold and or I fall off. I bought a fake moustache to get the right look for the pipe I'll be (not) smoking. It's fun already! |

A friend just tried to interest me in this ride. But there are 700 (!) bikes signed up for the LA event? (Most other cities seem to have 20-40 participants registered.) How the hell do you go on a 700-bike ride?!
Looks like I need to find an open face helmet and grow a beard pronto. I was thinking of a pipe and monocle as well, but don't want to wind up looking like Mr. Peanut.

For the LA ride the cops block off all the streets so there is an unimpeeded run fron DT to Venice and then over to Culver City. It's pretty impressive and the crowds love it. But dress for the occasion and you'll have more fun.

I have never heard of this before--looks like a fun ride. There is one happening here in Pittsburgh, but due to needing to register prior to viewing the details, I cannot see any of the info.
Can one of you already registered answer the following 1. Does completing the registration process mean you are obligated to make the ride/participate? I don't want to go through the process and add my name to something only to find out the dates or details don't work out 2. Can one of you already registered check the details on the Pittsburgh ride and PM me? (I promise to not just show-up unregistered )

The registration process is so that you can actually contribute to the charity. If you just want to ride along then simply turn up. You'll see some pretty cool bikes. The one in LA ended up at a some sort of studio where there were a lot of custom bikes on display. Its just like a decent Bike Night but aimed at classic style bikes. Very LA and our newest Troll Borders Reivers would absolutely approve.

Thanks Bill. Peter also PMed me the information. The ride looks like a lot of fun, and the weather this weekend is supposed to be beautiful. I am in the process of rebuilding the carbs on my 76 CB, which would be a perfect bike, and already have an old tweed jacket and tie and a Bell bubble shield. If I get the carbs done, I will be there.
Safe travels on your ride!

Kinda bummed (but not surprised) that there are no rides in KY. Nearest one is in Cincinnati.

It was certainly a laugh around here. There was meant to be just over 300 riders but it ended up more like 400 or 500. Thankfully no police presence, as there were a lot of bikes not road registered. Or some had car licence plates to make it look like they were legal
Some funny sights like a big fat guy on a little fat wheels bike more suited to an eight year old, lots of showing off. One guy had a 1950 BMW that he said was beautiful to ride, like riding a couch he said. Another guy had a full on Norton race bike that I don't think ever had been road legal. LOL it sure was loud riding through tunnels and city streets with these guys.

My first bike at 18 was a '54 Triumph. I've been in love with them ever since ..
