We had the old hoover for years, with abused, especially my boys... I know nothing now is built like that anymore, just don't want to have to look for vacuum cleaner every year.
Showed her the shark stick, shark rotator power light, and the shark navigator pro lift away. she picked the stick. I know why. Now, if she has problem, she can try another one of the three. Thanks guys. Quote:

A while back i bought a used Kirby, the kind that moves back and forth with one finner.
And it's made of ........METAL! It'll last for decades, something we can't say about the modern plastic crap they make nowadays. BTW when I bought it from the vacuum cleaner repair guy, i asked what was best and worst. He said Kirby best, dyson worst. He won't even take dysons into his shop no 'mo. Evidently he's allergic to broken plastic.

I believe i paid around $200 for my used but refurbished Kirby. I just checked to see what a new one cost. Wow.
$1600. https://www.consumerreports.org/products/upright-vacuum/kirby-avalir-380790/overview/ Those used ones are looking better and better, 20 years from now it'll still be worth $200. Maybe more. Last edited by sammyg2; 09-27-2017 at 05:07 PM.. |

We buy Bissell PowerForce Helix's from Walmart for $48. They work great and Mrs. Motion loves that they are super light, so she doesn't have to lug them around. Bagless, too. Toss em when they start slowing down and buy another one.

When our 12 year old Dyson died, we were in the middle of a long distance move and just grabbed a lower end Hoover. It was barely adequate but it was better than a sharp stick in the eye.
3 years later and now with 3 indoor cats, we had to get something better. We went with a Miele Complete C3. It is clearly the best we have owned, way better than the Dyson. Expensive but worth it. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00R43I4EU/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

We use Miele too. The first one lasted twenty plus years before the motor went. The last one we've had for about ten years now.

Dyson fan here. Bought the animal (hair) version 10 years ago. it is very good and solidly built for the price. I've had to disassemble several times to completely remove the hair left by my Chow.
I've replaced the HEPA filters which are available online, I cannot complain it's still going strong. I believe we paid in the low $500's for it at the time. I do understand the current version of the Shark is 1-to-1 in every way with the Dyson for about half the price. But not sure over the long haul. Biggest issue with any vacuum is not the suction ability but rather what amount of dust and other allergens are released back into the air. You can certainly spend more and get a nicer unit but is that diminishing returns?

Our Shark never fails to amaze me in how much dirt it sucks out of our carpets.

Our Dyson is 5 years old now and works great. I take it apart to clean and clear every 3-4 months and it runs like new again. We are not shopping for a replacement so I don't even walk down the vacuum aisle these days and have no idea what a Shark vac looks like.

My only complaint is that the cord could be a little longer.

Shark Rocket from Costco. Inexpensive and works great.

Bought a top line Dyson 'Ball' recently from Amazon for a hugely reduced price.
Excellent unit. . I grew up with a metal Kirby...lots of pro house cleaners use them.

Hard to beat Dyson. We have two, one about 10 years old running strong. One about three years old new whiz-bang ball model also works great.
