A stunning day which I didn’t think could get worse.

For those clinging to hope, brain dead is as good as dead or worse.

My thoughts go out to his family. The music world has lost a great.

Take your 'room at the top of the world' tonight, dear Tom......

It gets weirder. I was watching the part of the documentary when Tom talked about this at 10:45 last night. Apparently, that's when they think he had the heart attack, according to the radio.

Crazy. I recorded and finally watched Petty performing at Fenway yesterday afternoon and was singing his songs in my head all night. RIP Mr Petty

Great music, great songwriter. His albums have been the sound tracks to many a road trip. Thank you for the music. RIP Tom

Feel for his family. Friend was brain dead and off life support for over a month before he actually passed. RIP and condolences to the family.

Sad news. He put on great shows, and his band was tight. Mike Campbell by his side the whole ride....remember well when he appeared on the scene my freshman year of college and was a fan ever since....RIP Tom.

One of the few musicians that could turn three chords into a number 1 hit.

Godspeed. Mr Petty.

Thank you for 40 years of great music

I was shocked (only 66 years old) and saddened when I hear the news early this morning.

Someone whose music was always there and having just the right amount of righteous indignation, assertiveness, and down-to-earth friendliness. True Americana.

It was music you could always imagine you and some buds could play, and a lot of us did, and a guy not all that much different than those you hang out with.

I heard he had some on and off drug addiction issues, especially heroin, but at only 66, he is more of a peer than the older rockers who have passed in recent years.

"The End of the Line" keeps playing over & over in my head...

My senior year of high school (1982), I watched my new favorite video..."You Got Lucky" from Tom Petty, and the heartbreakers as many times as I could. He always had a real easy going/stoned look about him, and his music was always smooth/steady. RIP

I remember some magazine voted him the best dressed rocker. I agree. It always looked cool.

carreradpt 10-03-2017 07:20 AM

Wow, another one. Never got a chance to see him in concert but he was a fav. These guys our age are starting to drop off, what a bummer. Of course a little sex, drugs and rock and roll, or maybe a lot of rock star said activities will shorten your life a bit.

Another great joins The Good Lord's House Band
RIP Tom
