I hear there's a great white shark nursery off the coast of Rhode Island. They'd probably put it to good use out there.

This is the carcass of a cow we euthanized. She was put in a cooler to age for a week before we processed her for sausage and ground beef. She was not sick, just consumed all of her energy trying to get unstuck from mud and her unborn calf.

After 4 days, her carcass was not setting up. I had to pay to dispose of this carcass.

I tried donating it to the Calgary Zoo, the wolf sanctuary, the Birds of Prey rescue, another wolf place… nobody would take it. The carcass was not rotten but didn’t have the right enzyme balance to set up.

The answer is you pay to dispose of it. Even the dog food and rendering plants get paid to take the dead horses and livestock ($300). I paid $50 which was cheaper than me going to get it and leaving it out for coyote bait.

Oh and that strange cut in the far side of the carcass - that is from doing a successful Texas C-Section.

Owning Acreage and raising large animals, a backhoe comes in handy at times.

in many various situations.

Even buried 6-7 feet in a hole, the ground surface sags down recessed a bit after things decompose...........

Many counties have laws against burying livestock. It can affect groundwater in some soil conditions.

Sometimes a full chicken house or several has to be destroyed.20,000 or more birds per house. Tyson digs a huge hole dumps in the birds and covers them with lime before covering that with dirt. Dog food factories dont want spoiled meat.

Remember PBB?

Over 30,000 head of cattle were buried in Michigan alone in the early 70's due to a feed mix-up that spread throughout the farming industry before the danger was found.

Big deal here.

The guy that buried the last horse that died here worked with us on a site that was compliant with the rules.

The guidelines in my area are very strict and I have no issues.

We have a bone pile. It is what it sounds like... If the animal wasn't butchered and in the city at a meat processing plant, the carcass would have been on the bone pile. Our land is big enough that we can do this and not smell it.

“ It was an enormous story and no one was interested. I’m still, all these years later, amazed that that story has not been more widely told. Here is the biggest recorded contamination alone in this country – one that affected nine million people – and where have you read much about it?”

^^^
I was working in the 70's at a feed plant that was a direct recipient of the material from the St. Louis feed plant.
Cattle in our area started dying before it was traced back. Our plant was shut down and went through weeks of steam cleaning before we could re-open. Many farmers were suffering health concerns and the lawsuits started.
Most of the cattle were buried in huge pits and remain there today.

All because of a worker mistaking bags of fire retardant for animal feed.

Honestly, I'd grind it up and slowly feed it to a digester. At least you'd get some usable methane out of it.
