retirement it's my turn
I have been working full time since I was 15 years old and have worked the last 26 years for Lockheed Martin . Tomorrow I am mailing in my retirement package ! I will be officially retired as of 12/1/17 at the ripe old age of 59 and 11 months
 This is something Sue and I have been planning for about 18 years with the help of a financial advisor . We are in no ways " rich " but have a tidy nest egg and we both get Lockheed pensions . Signed up for healthcare insurance today that was the last hurdle to cross . Plan is to live off our pensions for 5 years then go on Medicare for health , add a supplement and start drawing social security . That will free up the nest egg for us to do additional items on our bucket lists. We are both happy and healthy at the moment who knows what the future will bring . I have a new man cave to finish , projects for the Porsche and a truck camper project I still have to finish . Sue and I plan on making every day count for as long as we can . This coming June will be 40 years being married we are in a great spot in our lives . And I will continue to post on here I love this site !!! This coming Saturday will be my last day of work , then I take all of November on vacation then first pension check 12/1 . It has taken a LOT of sweat equity to get here I'm glad I made it

Congratulations to you! Really smart to go while you're still able to enjoy it. I'm a little over five years until I can go- can't wait.

Congrats, Rick......much respect for your work ethic and please do continue to post here as I enjoy your threads.
BTW....I own my own business and at 63 I just finished the past season shrinking my hamster wheel with the goal of semi-retirement as well. I hope I never stop working because I love what I do so much. But it's different I realize when you work for someone else...especially a corporation. All the best to you and yours!

Congratulations!
Be ready for some soul searching, especially if your work has been a part of your identity (and it may be more than you think). I had a conversation with a recently retired friend about how odd it feels to not be "that guy" at work anymore. We were both more than ready for retirement, but we both found that not having the responsibility, not having people who depend on you, basically not being so important anymore, takes some adjustment. The adjustment is hard for some, easy for others (I guess I'm somewhere in the middle), but you will have to make it.
