I have heard of people drinking Listerine and Robitussin by the bottle full.
This ''might'' be a step up. |

At my first job I worked with a old black man name Benny. He was in his late 60s. He told me about "Green Lizard" which was hair tonic. It was like 15% alcohol but had the smell of every barber shop of the time. In Benny's words, the first sip is bad, but after 1/2 a bottle it ain't so bad. I never tried it.
I worked there for several years. When I was old enough to get into clubs I tried a Screwdriver at a club and it was pretty good. They next day I saw a bottle of Orange flavored vodka and figured it would be like a screw driver. It was horrid. One sip and I spit it out. I gave the bottle to ol' Benny. A few days later I asked him how it was and he said something that I have remembered all my life as a great quote: "It was just right" and I of course asked what he meant. "If it was any better you would not have given it to me, and worse and I could not have drunk it!" ![]() ![]() I learned that I really like beer. I have not bough a bottle of hard booze in 40 years.

All I remember is it was like Listerine. One sip and then a spit take. It has been a long time since then but I remember instantly thinking, Benny will take care of it.

As a teenager that Boones Farm flavored stuff was popular because the girls would drink it. Guess that lead to guys trying the flavored vodkas which tasted like cold medicine and always made someone in the group sick. Later they switched to the new wine coolers basically for the same reason, the girls would drink it.
Me, just stuck to beer, or regular booze and occasionally mixing up proper mixed drinks. When in HS band and playing at the football games the saxophone section would make margaritas and put it in gatorade jars (they were glass back then and gatorade was always green) and bring them to games in a small ice chest. The chaperons would always check the other band members drinks but never thought we would put anything in green gatorade. Even though we would always at some point sing "Wasted away again in Margaritaville."

I like to drink some pretty weird stuff, hefeweizen, sake, etc... But this stuff:

Back in Jr. High school days we live in Hawaii on base at Hickam AFB. We lived on 2nd street and dad was a Lt Col so no fancy house like Full Bird and up had, just basic apartment like cheap house. A "gang" of kids hung out next to the dumpster under the window of my room. There was a large row of hedges that hid the dumpster from the view of the street so they were hidden from the AP. Their favorite pastime was to get a bottle of Southern Comfort and chug it until the puked. We had no Air Conditioning so I had to have the windows open. I could hear them talking and then the chant of chug chug chug and then barf into the dumpster. Dad would call the AP and roust them out and they scattered like roaches. It made the dumpster a bit unpleasant. For some reason I never felt like I wanted to participate in that.

Purple passion, Vodka and grape koolaid. Did not drink that. Did not drink the other jug mix either, like Root Beer, 7-up, and Everclear. Preferred getting a Coke icee drink, pouring in a little of any kind of booze, stir it up a bit until it froze the alcohol and sip on that, or just a cold beer.

It did not freeze the alcohol. Alcohol does not freeze until -173°F.
It can freeze the water in booze, but Tequila will not freeze in your freezer.

Haha...haven't heard the term "Purple Jesus" in quite a while. Back when I was in the Army and stationed in North Carolina, we would go out to the countryside and get a mason jar of White Lightnin' from an old bootlegger and mix it with some Welch's grape juice. The locals called that concoction 'Purple Jesus' and one sip of that stuff would usually bring tears to your eyes.

I want my ice beer to taste like beer and my grapes to taste like grapes. No way I want to combine the two.
