Here we go again
Close but fortunately the wind is blowing the other direction. Scattered power outages, cellular networks down, mandatory evacuations.

Yeah, Ventura is on fire, 0% contained, last I heard. Went from a 50 acres to 50,000 in a hurry.
Stay safe out there

Yeah, it looks like it could go Santa Rosa on them without even trying.
Be safe.

This pic is from my house. Daughter and grandson evacuated and heading to Disneyland for a few days. Winds are blowing 50 mph with 70 mph gusts destroyning my avocados 30 days before harvest. The fires are just west of me and moving west, so we're ok here...for now.

Good luck guys. And it does seem to be a luck thing. Very random what gets burnt and what doesn't.

I realize when dealing with matters of nature.....there's only so much one can do.
That said.....is our fire fighting resources "up to speed" and have we topped out with regard to tapping all resources available and possible? I'm not technically savvy enough to know or comment - but if we doubled both our equipment and personnel - would it help at all?

HEy Baz, I've been really surprised to see how mobile the fire response efforts in the desert west has become. The are able to bring in large forces from all around.
The willingness to send help is well established. While travel in the west over the last few year I've run into many crews that we're going to or returning from fires great distances from there home areas. Not saying there is not more that can be done, but these big fires out west are not rare and the fire services seem pretty cooperative. It's the dryness and openness of the country, add wind and there is not a lot to do at times, but get out of the way. Very scary. Cheers Richard |

Bad day to be commuting on the 405. It's closed from I-10 to 101 both directions as the Sepulveda pass is on fire now.

they come from everywhere. i saw an engine company from North Carolina up in the hills. i think there was some chaos when it first happens, but once they set up that command center, it is like watching air traffic control,,they move teams around with precision. i'm trying to get an engineering position with CalFire. it's a trippy job..lots of mapping. i think with the changing climate, that job is gonna get more in demand. right now i think they have 3 engineers. i saw a fire rig..it was going down our highway. it looked like a big stainless steel, armored "wedge". it had a water cannon up front. i think they drive that right up a fires'ass. crazy.. and the Dozer teams..insane. those guys are good and insane. i think the dozers do most of the heavy lifting, since they control the fuel., i was surprised to learn that there is not the amount of fire fighting i imagined..they let it burn..but just control it.

I'm 4 miles south of the Sepulveda pass - but the wind is blowing west. I have friends who have had to evacuate Bel Air...
