I phone map question

It used to be that when I want to see the map traffic is automatically on. In the past few months, my traffic has been going off on its own (over night)? When I get in the car in the morning, I usually check traffic. It took me a couple of weeks to figure it out that I have to turn it back on, almost every morning. Its really pissing me off. Some nights, it doesn't do it. sometimes, the traffic button is on, but I have to go and switch it off then on again for the traffic to reappear again.

I think its Goggle Map?. What ever it came with the phone. What I am doing wrong or anyone what actually happened?

I dont think the Google Maps app is preinstalled on an iPhone.
It has to be the Maps App?

I have recently noticed the same. There is a little disclaimer on mine of a recent update that causes that. My Iphone came with "Maps" and added Google Maps. I use both, Google is better.

Waze; have it, but don't use it much.

Just FYI, Google maps would be default on every Android since Google created Android.

Apple created "Apple Maps", and so that's what comes on Apple phones.

Because Google and Apple are the two largest competitors in the smartphone market (OS makers) for a long time, you couldn't even get Google Maps for an iPhone, but I think you can these days.

It's not quite as well integrated, but your best bet for traffic and routing is probably an app called Waze.

I've always preferred Google Maps to Apple Maps, but since I've gotten the iPhone, I haven't bothered with Google Maps, but I do use Waze.

Waze is better for cops and the like but it frequently pads the route time by 20%, or sends you on a wild goose chase to save 30 seconds on your commute. I remember when waze was young, they supposedly routed an israeli APC thru a palestinian camp and the soldiers got killed. Kinda how I feel about waze these days, except the cops feature is useful !

I've noticed the same thing on apple maps re: traffic... Use google maps for now...

I think Waze is amazingly accurate on estimating the ETA on long trips. But I will have to agree about it sending you on a wild goose chase. You really have to review the proposed route it sends you on so you don't end up driving further to save 1 minute.

It probably varies based on your location... Lately When leaving work Google tells me 45 min, Apple 47min, Waze 1 hour... that's a significant difference (and they're all wrong but waze more than the others)

Pay close attention to what it does, it recalculates all the time so it's never wrong by the time you get there, but make a mental note of the original estimate, it's frequently totally off... For me anyway... Also waze lately has been forgetting some roads existed (19th ave tunnel in SFO), or forget my exit exists and adds a 15 min detour, it's been extraordinarily buggy this past year... I stopped using it for directions, but I leave it on for cops...

Interesting. I haven't had any issues with Waze, but then I don't use Nav that often either. I'll often kick Waze on just so it can route me around traffic.

I've had problems with Apple maps being a year behind on knowing that new roads exist and have even submitted change requests on their website.

I've always had good luck with google maps when I've used it. The only thing that Google maps won't know about is if a road is closed for a few hours on a weekend for a parade or a marathon or something like that.

I don't even know how to use the estimated time. I know the city really well and pretty know where the traffic is, but its just nice to see if there's a problem before I enter the fwy and head toward a traffic jam. I use it to see if there's a traffic jam is all I needed it to do for me. I can't stand their recommended route. Looks like Goggle map is it? I have not used Waze.

Yeah, I've never really paid much attention to estimated time. They are usually off. Maybe they just don't plan for the way I drive.

Waze has been pretty great for me. A couple years ago I was making the trek from San Diego to Santa Barbara almost weekly and the app was very useful. I have had a couple "goose chase" trips where it routed me to surface streets to save a couple minutes but in reality I lost time. However many times we started the drive (3+ hours) and our arrival time was within minutes of their first estimate. Amazing. My wife had issues with the app last week when she was in Santa Barbara and the 101 was flooded/closed. The app didn't pick up the closure and she fought it all the way North to Santa Maria to get the access highway to the I-5. I have an iPhone and rarely use the Apple map for driving.
