Is everyone baked?

I can smell it driving down the freeway, down PCH, all around town. People are driving 20mph under the speed limit everywhere. The kids hang out in the beach parking lots toking. Everyone seems to be baked now. FWIW, I don't partake. I've tried it, but its not for my personality.

We in biiiiiiiig trouble.

Wake & Bake!!

HardDrive 02-24-2018 09:52 AM

In a word, yes.

scottmandue 02-24-2018 09:54 AM

would you rather they be smoking crack or drinking alcohol? You can't smell folks getting drunk as you drive by.

Interesting that you use the term 'baked' that is pretty much used only by stoners.

I was in traffic at the Oakland Bay Bridge toll plaza and the man, not a kid, in the pick up truck next to me was smoking a pipe. This was during a weekday morning commute!

I have driven high and I have driven drunk.

The answer is arrest both.

Pretty sure I would prefer none of the above.

scottmandue 02-24-2018 11:32 AM

I'm at work sitting in a building with several hundred people who are working and not smoking weed, I haven't touched the stuff in decades.

Drive by the beach on a Saturday morning and the surfers are getting high.

Location, location, location...

dad911 02-24-2018 12:38 PM

I'm baking. Oxy & muscle relaxant prescribed. Spasms back and neck. Never felt this way before.

crb07 02-24-2018 12:57 PM

I ride road bikes. In the last few years I have noticed more and more people smoking and driving. 5X more at least. On a bike it is very obvious as most people smoke pot keep the windows down. This is not going to have a happy ending about ten years from now.

Porsche-O-Phile 02-24-2018 01:06 PM

I bet in a few months it’ll subside when the novelty of it wears off.

FWIW I prefer being behind some stoner driving carefully and 10 under the limit than the hothead, perpetually-aggro always-in-a-rush east coasters I used to have to deal with!

Driving high is as bad as driving drunk.

I have never understood those that confuse a blood alcohol problem with a THC problem,

I grew up in an era that excused BAC and sent you to jail for pot. Having done both, a lot in the '70's, neither is acceptable.

How is this even a debate?

Craig T 02-24-2018 01:35 PM

I play golf almost every day. The whole damned golf course smells like Amsterdam. It seems everyone under 40 is blasting in the carts, parking lot, on the tee boxes...and half those over 40 are stoned. You can't get away from the smell. I'm sick of it.

I was a total stoner from 16-19, but gave it up. Hard to function when I'm so paranoid I'm hiding in a closet with an M4.

scottmandue 02-24-2018 01:47 PM

Just for the record I do not advocate driving under the influence (of anything).

Only observing that humankind has been getting high...well... forever, so I don't expect it will go away anything soon.

It is illegal to smoke cigarettes almost anywhere In Calif, I presume there will restrictions on smoking weed outdoor too.

Yes, we are domed.

But if I were much younger I'd be kinda happy because allot of the competition for good jobs is getting dumber and lazier with every toke.

Exactly!

Had to go to court this week for allegedly rolling through a stop sign. Very small town, very fat police force, very high fines. Mine was $215.

Almost every one else was a combination of traffic offense ($215 and up) AND possession of marijuana ($585 for 1st offense, higher and/or jail time for 2nd). One poor guy got nailed for stop sign, marijuana and open container. Ouch.

wdfifteen 02-24-2018 03:58 PM

Impaired is impaired. People take the responsibility of driving far too lightly. No one should be smoking, drinking, texting, eating while driving.

Gogar 02-24-2018 03:58 PM

Some of that smoke you see roiling out of cars is “vape.” Which I understand even less but to each his own.

fintstone 02-24-2018 04:40 PM

It is becoming a huge problem to find employees that can pass a drug test...even where it is not legal:

I drive a lot for work and haven't really noticed an increase in pot smoke. The number of drivers distracted by their phones has gotten truly scary however.

Phew!, i grew worried that as that list grew you'd include 'getting hummered by the wife'. I guess there is a difference between impaired driving and erratic driving.

You are spot on btw. For some reason people don't equate driving with some level of responsibilty. Further as you point out impairment has many forms.

Stoners are so slow, I cannot live in a world that slow.

It pains me to see this in town.

I want to pick them up and toss them in the trash, not sure how long it would take them to notice the relocation.

Damn kachi, that's a deplorable conservative response. A good democrat is supposed to shower them with money/love/free housing, rehab & social programs. ;)

I wanted my slice of pizza and the stoners had ordered and would not get out of the way.

That's just not right.

Don't get between me and food when I'm hungry.

Welcome to Colorado. I took my son to cub scouts the other night and I could smell it on one of the parents.

drcoastline 02-24-2018 07:59 PM

Drive stoned at 20MPH if you want. I draw the line when you are in the left lane. That is unacceptable. Way to many left lane dicks already. But one that is stoned as well? I won't stand for it.

Wait, go back. You live in Colorado and are not stoned?

KFC911 02-25-2018 03:35 AM

Shake 'n Bake...not just a hippie from San Francisco :)

ckelly78z 02-25-2018 05:57 AM

Haven't been baked for 35 years, I told myself I was done, and havn't done it since. I do think getting "hummered" was more distracting than being stoned. Fortunately for public safety, or unfortunately in my case, my wife doesn't do that any more.

Holy crap. I couldn't have said it better myself. Atta Boy!

(that's quite a compliment for you ;) )

DanielDudley 02-25-2018 06:26 AM

I guess it makes things that are boring and repetitious more tolerable. Like a radio.

Weed seems to effect really smart people in a different way than it does average people, but the reality is that if you have some in your system all the time it effects you all the time.

Like coffee. Unless you get really straight for a while, you won't know what that difference is.

Like drinking. And you will still want it even though any addiction component is absent or gone.

Like smoking. Most people need to get straight for at least a year to get a head that isn't conditioned to thinking that being screwed up is normal. And then they might have to start working on the preconceived notions in their heads that are at the roots of self medicating.

Or they can just be straight, and decide to be just like they were when they decided that they pretty much knew everything about life that they ever needed to know, and keep organizing all of the facts in their heads to fit those concepts. Like that guy in the mirror.

Everybody's got something to hide except for me and my monkey. ;) Goes into guitar riff...

recycled sixtie 02-25-2018 06:27 AM

None of us around here toke up. Pretty disgusting like smoking. Having said that the in laws have done pretty well buying pot stocks in the last year. :)

I've been getting myself off of cigars and get grumpy once in a while.

Addiction of any kind is bad in my opinion, but it is human nature.

stealthn 02-25-2018 08:04 AM

Everywhere we went in Vegas we could see and smell it. Didn’t think it was cool as I was with my family
