Oscars

Guillermo del Toro showed again that he is one of the best film directors.
The Shape of Water won best picture.
Pans Labyrinth is still his best.
Hellboy might be second.

john walker's workshop 03-05-2018 09:49 AM

Whatever.

JavaBrewer 03-05-2018 09:52 AM

The awards have become too divisive and political for us. Years ago my wife planned her entire day around the awards, now she insists the TV is not tuned to the show or any related coverage.

tevake 03-05-2018 09:58 AM

I have rarely seen the movies, so its hard to get excited about the awards.

Don't care about who is wearing who's dresses, not much there for me.

Cheers Richard

stevej37 03-05-2018 10:06 AM

I saw The Shape of Water...better than most of the past year..imo
The pre-show is worthless. About the same as the hours of pre-super bowl.
Kimmel was good, as usual.

Tidybuoy 03-05-2018 10:30 AM

I like movies. I like actors when they are acting but when they get the opportunity to speak in their native tongue, I rapidly lose interest. Didn't watch.

legion 03-05-2018 10:31 AM

I didn't realize the virtue-signaling festival occurred last night until seeing the news this morning.

There was a new Top Gear on last night.

Mad Max 03-05-2018 10:33 AM

Didn't realized anyone still watched these pompous, pedophile loving communists.

ckelly78z 03-05-2018 10:35 AM

I go to movies that interest me, and are a 3 hour diversion from reality, which is usually waiting in the mall parking lot when I leave. I don't really care who stars in the film, or who directed it, but mostly just go off of the short clips I have seen/trailer, or word of mouth to determine if it's something I want to see.

I think I saw one of the new films this year, and don't know much about the remainder of the hopefuls. I'm not a movie junkie, and therefore could care less about the Oscars.

cairns 03-05-2018 10:49 AM

Kimmel should set an example and cut his own penis off. Assuming he has one.

I heard he drives a Porsche :)

Mark Henry 03-05-2018 10:59 AM

I've always thought the Oscars were boring, I could care less.
Del Toro filmed a good chunk of Crimson Peak just down the street from me, but I still haven't seen it, I've never have been much of a horror film buff.

Our Prez staged another, "I luv me" rally last night?!

I haven't seen Crimson Peak. I will sometime soon.
Pans Labyrinth is one of his that is very under-rated.

Craig T 03-05-2018 11:07 AM

Yawn...to care any less than I do, I'd have to be dead.

I know several Hollywood people socially through a friend of my wife. They're even more full of themselves and less I impressive in real life.

pwd72s 03-05-2018 11:10 AM

What? Another "we're rich and beautiful and you're not" event?

Gosh...I missed it. The World Pool Masters tourney was going on in Gibralter over the past weekend. Much better skill was being shown without any political comment. One of the referees had a kinda "sexy young librarian" schtick going... She worked the semifinal between Jayson Shaw of Scotland and Shane Van Boening from South Dakota. Here's a link..

Just a bunch of goofy, narcissist, entitled prima donnas who would not be successful in any other activity that took more than half a brain...who somehow seem to think they are more enlightened than other Americans and should tell us how to think. They should stick to the one thing they know...how to make those violent, pedophilloic, anti-American films (now that they have stopped casting couch interviews). Of course this time, instead of children or members of the same sex (now that straight men are taboo in Hollywood)...they celebrate a movie about a woman having sex with a fish. Is that beastiality or...just fish sticks? If that is the best film of the year...then that just shows how far Hollywood/the Oscars have fallen. We might as well have a bunch of low-information pro athletes talk down to us with their gutter language, 2nd grade sentence structure and childish viewpoints about politics and why they should not stand for the flag/national anthem...oh wait.

Deschodt 03-05-2018 11:37 AM

Yeah, well paid actors patting each other on the back for extra recognition to go with their fame and millions... Not for me... Until they give oscars to nurse of the year, paramedic, teacher of the year etc...

I thought Shape of water was the worst movie I ever saw - a bad twilight zone episode, done and redone 40x before - goes to show you I know nothing about art... Happy for Gary Oldman though, that was a great performance as Churchill... I heard Eddie Vedder at some point (not watching - wife watched parts of it), almost went to see that but resisted the urge.

Kimmel has no right to bust on Trump, after hosting 'The Man Show'.

yellowperil 03-05-2018 11:49 AM

Kawasaki Jet Ski award

I was most interested in this, and it was a great idea BTWhttp://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1520279331.jpg

ABC star Jimmy Kimmel's 'divisive,' politically charged Oscars could be least watched in history

Media Research Center Vice President Dan Gainor told Fox News viewers shouldn’t be surprised that the show turned political and featured “divisive, left-wing politics” throughout the four-hour event.

“The Tinseltown elite genuinely hate the people they expect will pay to see their movies and watch their TV shows,” Gainor said. “Why do we support them?”

Maybe it's the CEO of papa john's pizza's fault ;)

I found a set of Titleist 690 MB's irons that was missing the 4 iron in a Thrift for $16.80. Bought a 4 iron for $33 including ship on Ebay... so for just under $50 I have a good set of forged Titleist irons. Have been chipping with them in the BY and can I hit them square...

Next step is to go out to a cheap 3 par course and play a round and see how I do.

svandamme 03-05-2018 12:58 PM

Good on Gary Oldman, well deserved he's an ace actor, has been for a very , very long time.
If it wasn't or best actor, they could just as well have given him the lifetime achievement award...

Yes..he's been in a ton of movies.
I really liked the part he played in The Fifth Element

yellowperil 03-05-2018 01:05 PM

I would watch to Oscars

If it wasn't on SO late and there wasn't 15 mins of ads for every 30 secs of Oscars/
after all it's kinda fun. I like movies and like to keep up.

And they like us, right?

PS: I'm looking forward to "3 Bill boards". "Shape of water" is not going to do it for me!

Well, it's now official. The least watched Oscar awards ever. Down 20% from last year, which also sucked.

I much preferred watching ugly people playing a beautiful game. Top shots 6 minute video here. Don't try these at home folks..pros at work.
Gotta love Jayson Shaw of Scotland...if Ringo had fathered an illegitimate son?

I’m trying to find the video. So far no luck.

I remember an episode of the man show where they had dawn, Mary Ann, wells on. Kimmel threw the near 70 year old actress down and humped her on the floor.

I liked the show for it’s spectacular bad taste and vulgarity. But that was a moment that just went too far. Even for me.

Hellboy was awesome....and so was the sequel. Every time it comes on TV I have to watch it!

Haven't seen the others you mentioned.....

Our ENTIRE society has become WAY too political and divisive.

And you can blame it ALL on the slime-ball media!

ALL they care about....is ratings.

Maybe the low ratings from last year combined with the dramitically lower ratings from this year, will send a resounding message.....but probably not.

The Liberals, Hollywood, and MSM just can't fathom why the other 49 states don't worship these inane awards shows like they do.

I wouldn't hold my breath.

In general - humans aren't all that bright.

Did the colored guy get an Oscar for original screenplay for real reasons or political reasons?

I loved the shiet out of "Get Out"

Was it that good? Pretty damned good but Academy Award worthy?
