KIA bringing it
Have to say the Korean brands, Hyundai, KIA, have really been upping their game.
Hyundai with their Genesis line now KIA drops the Stinger. 0-60 in 4.4 365 HP 167 MPH Twin Turbo RWD Coupe all starting at $32k. https://jalopnik.com/the-2018-kia-stinger-gt-is-the-real-deal-1822643041 |
Seems like that price is a little high. I paid $29k for a Mustang GT with 435 hp that handles better than a well-set up 944 (and I should know).

Saw a Stinger in a parking lot yesterday. Nice looking ride! I have liked the Genesis line and will probably grab one when I see a good used AWD pop up. I think Genesis just started building AWD so I'll have to wait a little while.
|
I recently had a Kia Optima as a rental. Nice car. Peppy turbo engine, build quality was very good. Gas mileage was amazing.
|
I often rent a car from FLL to EYW (or back) ..... I always ask for the Hyundai. Comfortable and excellent mpg.

I saw that kia stinger commercial, did you read the fine print?

I'm no fan of Asian cars but Hyundai and Kia have done a very good job with the styling of their cars. A few years ago their target was Toyota - both benchmarked styling. performance and handling - they offer an excellent warranty too.

The local Kia dealership has cured me of EVER owning a Kia. For the last 7 years, he has mass marketed his dealership on every local radio, and TV station with multiple annoyingly loud commercials every 1/2 hour. They must be selling a lot of cars to the sheep, because that must be a YUGE advertising budget. I don't personally know anyone who has bought one....I'll stick with Ford.
BTW, with it's new 4 wheel independant suspension, I would match a similar HP Mustang to a Stinger any day, on any track. Weight might be the only drawback, but I just bet the Stinger couldn't run away from a V6 Mustang. |

I can remember when "made in japan" was an insult.
Things changed, they got better, their products eventually became top of the heap in quality (and in many cases, price). Then the Koreans started making stuff and it wasn't that great. Note that I am NOT talking about just cars here, i'm talking all sorts of electronics, industrial equipment, tooling etc. Then it started getting better and better, now it's almost as good as the Japanese stuff. So what's next? IN 10 or 15 years or so we'll prolly be talking about how good the Chinese cars are and how much they've improved. |

You wouldn't buy a certain brand car because the dealer has a stupid commercial on the radio?
Tell you the truth, I secretly want to buy one of those KIA instead of a Panamara. Well, Lexus, Infinity then the one of those KIA. I have no idea how many models they make, but on the used market, its a bang up deal. I rather fix that KIA then for the Panamara |

Looks nice but I wonder if they considered how close the name Stinger is to Stinker.

The commercials just annoy the hell out of me, and makes me not want to visit. |

Nothing personal! They don't make 'em like they used to - regardless of all the bells and whistles....they still look like doo doo.....sorry! SmileWavy |

A guy i carpool with has one of them Kia hamster-wagons, the Kia soul.
I was totally surprised how much room there is in that thing and how comfortable it is. The ride is pretty good for a small car and it doesn't rattle or buzz. Much. I'm not considering buying a kia soul but don't mind riding in one, especially if someone else is paying for the gas. I like it a hundred times more than the POS nissan sentra my wife bought for our daughter, who gave it to my son when my wife gave her a murano, which she traded in on a lexus. |

Yup, you're right. That sucks. |

Kia and Hyundai are no longer "nice for the money", they are simply nice cars. I travel a lot for work and will pick a Kia or Hyundai over a Toyota any day of the week, they have nicer interiors and are nicer to drive. We had a 2017 Toyota Sienna XLE AWD that we bought from my parents and hated it, minimal and poorly designed features, cheaply made, poorly finished, just a crappy van all around. We tested all of the van options before buying a Ford Flex instead, and our favorite of the bunch was the Kia Sedona. Not being the type that cares about brand cachet, we would have absolutely bought one. The Stinger is a great looking car but still uniquely styled, which hasn't been the case with past Korean cars. They are finally moving past the "me too" styling and developing their own design language, which is good. Kia hired the Audi design chief away from them 5-ish years ago and you can definitely see some Audi in their designs, particularly inside. |
For me because I don't buy brand new cars, I would like to see how these Korean cars age or how they stand up to after 8 years, this includes the styling.
I just bought a '98 SL500 and to me that car is so beautiful for a 20 year old car that I paid less than the price of a Hyundai Accent. |
I rented out a KIA Soul when I took a trip to Western NC to view the Eclipse.
Not a bad car, plenty of room and handled very well on the mountain roads going up the 8 mile logging trail on the side of one of the mountains, reminded me of one of the "death Highway" videos, no guardrail on the side of the road:eek: Zero rattles and the transmission did a great job selecting the correct gears going up the twisty roads. Seats were decent and my back was not hurting me after the 12 hour drive back home It should have been 4 1/2 hour drive but a Semi plunged off the road just past Black Mountain on I-40 so we were sitting in gridlock for a long time. Much better then the Hyundai's I have rented out over the years. I wonder what the residual will be for a Stinger after 3 years? |

Good in a straight line but from what i have read the Genesis and Stinger have a long way to go in the suspension/handling department.

They've been poaching Mercedes and BMW people too...

A good friend of mine bought a used Hyundai 7 or 8 years ago, I think it might be an elantra.
At the time i remembered thinking that it would be worn out and broken down before he ever paid it off. He's got well over 200k miles on it now and it just keeps going. I'm surprised how well it has stood up. The most miles I have ever put on as vehicle was 150k on a chebby silverado, so 200k seems like a go-zillion to me. |

There is a list but the Genesis is close to the top. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/jG9GqGtpYv0" frameborder="0" allow="autoplay; encrypted-media" allowfullscreen></iframe> |
