Funny you should mention that because, no, I don't daily drive a 4 lug car. It's 5 lug (big difference, still a Camry). Never even noticed that wheel wouldn't fit on my car even if it was good.

Good idea. I shall heed this advice.

My daily driver has had 4 lug wheels as long as I have had a car.

No that tire is not bad, you are going to ruin it's self esteem. It is just different. Don't slap labels on it because you think it is bad, remember it is just special.

So who goes around switching out spare wheel and tire sets?

The same person who put an aftermarket keyless entry system on a car with factory keyless entry because they lost the OEM fob.

"My old man's spare tires were only actually tires in the academic sense. They were round and had once been made of rubber."

First thing that came to mind when I looked at that picture.

I pulled the wheels and tire off of my 84' Mercedes 280CE that was stored inside for the past 25 years with a seized motor, while working on it in the shop. Had the tires sitting outside in the sun for a few days while temps were in the 90º's. Heard a loud bang and found this. thank god I never tried to drive the car on these!

A 1998 Camry for $1K with 200K miles on it with a questionable past that may or may not have included time used as a 'delivery' vehicle for certain dried bud to undesirable members of society. It's beat, rusted, abused but it keeps going. Something I can use without worry of getting into a wreck or others wrecking into me when there's a foot of snow outside.

I can't see how that tire could be from a '98 or newer. Looks to me like that tire is from the 70's or 80's.

I thought the 30 yr old tires I replaced on the 911 were in bad shape. They were rotten but not as bad as your picture.
