55

How in the heck did that happen?

Middle age if I live to 110!

Bought myself a new (to me) mountain bike last week as a bday present.
Now waiting for the snow that is melting at a glacial pace to disappear!

Happy Birthday, Big Bill!

Congrats on the new bike - a very wise investment.

On that note as we grow older (not old) my philosophy of late is we must celebrate getting wiser.

Carpe Diem, my friend!

Congrats, sort of :-) I'll be 55 in a few weeks. I bought this TREK Fuel 29 last year as sort of a birthday present to myself.

Our snow just recently cleared (although it re appeared Saturday) and I've been able to get out on a few rides. On the trail is probably my favorite place to be.

Happy birthday Bill. Just to put things in perspective my father in law now deceased used to say it was all downhill after 50. He said you don't have the energy. Having said that he lived till 98!

Speaking of snow I understand you have a lot more than us. I hope you don't have floods when it melts.

This is it. Bronson CC 2016 with Enve wheels and industry nine hubs.
Very low usage and in great shape.
Less than half the cost of new!
Thanks for the good wishes, gentlemen.

Just wait you will see 60 flashing up in just a few months.

No doubt time dilates as we age. As a kid the weeks between Thanksgiving and Christmas felt like it was at least 9 months long. Now it is just a couple a week apart. The proof is that Christmas decorations are in the stores before Halloween is finished.

I am constantly having to revise a statement of time. I was just a few years ago that I bought my 911, but in reality it was in 1995. That was in a different millennium!

Just remember my motto: You are never too old to have a Happy Childhood!.

Based on the article below, since you've got that bike, you have a better chance of hitting 110 than if you spent all day sitting around complaining about the olden days.
How exercise in old age prevents the immune system from declining - BBC News

Quote:
They followed 125 long-distance cyclists, some now in their 80s, and found they had the immune systems of 20-year-olds.

Prof Janet Lord, director of the Institute of Inflammation and Ageing, at the University of Birmingham, and co-author of the research, said: "The immune system declines by about 2-3% a year from our 20s, which is why older people are more susceptible to infections, conditions like rheumatoid arthritis and, potentially, cancer.

"Because the cyclists have the immune system of a 20-year-old rather than a 70- or 80-year-old, it means they have added protection against all these issues."

The researchers looked at markers in the blood for T-cells, which help the immune system respond to new infections.

These are produced in the thymus, a gland in the chest, which normally shrinks in size in adulthood.

They found that the endurance cyclists were producing the same level of T-cells as adults in their 20s, whereas a group of inactive older adults were producing very few.

First off, I'll break the news: the Senior Discount ain't schit. I call these the "Snake Plissken" years, as like Kurt Russell's character in Escape from New York" everyone seems surprised you're still alive.

At a recent local Porsche club breakfast I was looking at my ticket and I noticed they had given both myself and my wife the "Senior" discount. It did not mention how much it was, but it was just part of the price.

They had not asked if we qualified!

Hey a discount is good even if it was just 25 cents each!
