"The Wall" - my daughter has an awakening...
My daughter is 15 1/2, creative, intelligent, etc, and likes to write. She's been on a rap/hip hop kick for a while. I cannot stand the crap, and dread her taking over the bluetooth connection in my car. Imagine my surprise when she asks to connect so she can play "The Wall"! Seems her young male friend is into classic rock. Good kid, loves to talk cars as well. She's hooked, so I suggested Dark Side of the Moon, the Doors, Zeppelin, Bowie, etc. What a fun journey for her.

Nah, son. It's excellent, well made music with heart and soul.
And it's not rap/hip hop.

I well remember when about, oh, fifteen years or so ago, I went to Eau Claire, Wisconsin over the Thanksgiving holiday to hunt whitetails with my oldest son, who was there for high school (we sent our boys to a parochial high school affiliated with our church). I showed up in the dorm supervisor's office to introduce myself and ask where I might find my son. He sent me up to the third floor, the freshmen's floor - "you'll have no trouble finding him...".
As soon as I opened the stairwell door to get into the hallway on the third floor, I was bombarded by Jimi blaring from one of the dorm rooms, turned all the way up to 11. The entire floor was crammed in there, my son's room. You just know when you've raised them right.

Ah yes, I remember those nights, completely off my head listening to that album. I'm pleased I'm so much more sensible now.

My 17-year old daughter listens to Pink Floyd all the time. And she can play the bass on Money. She's cool.

My now 12 year old son also taken the hook. We were on the ferry at night, crossing the sound from Hatteras over to Okaracoke island, when he stumbled onto PF the animals on my i pod. He said it was like a light switch went off , and he jumped into pink floyd with both feet.
He asked my why no one makes music like that anymore. Grandpas dope smoking music it is . He prefers 70's music. Coming home from easter dinner last night, he picked Steve Miller for the ride . Good kid .

I bought a used car CD player once- powered it up, there was a Wiz Khalifia inside -"Rolling Papers." I listened to it once, then threw it straight into the garbage.
It does appear that the kids are getting into 60's 70's rock- like that band Led Zeppelin knocked off- Greta Van Fleet ![]() ![]()

"Why don't they make music like that anymore".
Well, they do; but they are called covers. |

So...I looked briefly on youtube for a cover, and found a cover of a cover.
Not often I find that. |

I probably wouldn’t draw any conclusions from a kids Taste in music.
Kids follow each other’s trend patterns. Just hope she doesn’t meet a handsome kid that likes jazz. New age jazz!

Probably ten years ago my two rap music listening boys bought tickets to see Jethro Tull. They bought t shirts and CD's. I re lived my youth through them.
