Old guy ski trip 2018

Just had a fun trip to Boyne Mountain in Michigan with 11 of my old college buddies. Unbelievable that we could get 12 of us together again after 30 years.

We are all around 50 years old and none of us ski much anymore. That said, a couple of us were still able to hit some big kickers in the terrain park. I was the only one crazy (or stupid) enough to attempt a helicopter on a smaller tabletop. It has probably been 15 years since I landed one of these successfully lol.

These modern day kickers are bit scary to hit the first few times in regard to judging proper speed. Myself and a buddy were likely the only guys in our 50's hitting them.... no one else appeared to be older than mid 20's.

On the last day two of our buddies decided they needed to try it... One was successful... One was not and landed short thus fracturing his heel bone on impact.

Men do not quit playing because they get old.... They get old because they quit playing.

"The worst judgment makes the best stories".

Sounds like a fun time aside from the injury - hope he laughs about it and recovers quickly!

Fantastic!

I do a guys trip to Aspen every year for the past 30 years. The group has gotten smaller over the years and now it's just my brother-in-laws and cousin but we have a great time every year and spend most of the year looking forward to it.

Funny, as I started reading your post I thought to myself, "I would probably break something".

A group of us still get together in our college town every year around Christmas for dinner. We are well over 10 years straight. People come and go each year, but there's a core group that is always there.

Fun trip!

Bummer to see guys thinking of themselves as old at only 50.

I was still windsurfing near my prime at 50, and still looking for the biggest waves. only recently accepted the geezer moniker at 69.

Don't think yourself into old age earlier than nesissary brother pelicans

Cheers Richard

On next years trip...consider Boyne Highlands. 25 miles north of the Mt., but more runs and wider open.

I have skied both and like the Mountain better. Back in the day, the highlands was typically groomed greens and blues whereas the Mountain usually had some bumps and steeper terrain in general which is what we preferred to ski. This trip we stayed on site in a condo and it was Carnival Weekend "Crazy Daze" at Boyne Mountain.... kind of like spring break for adults.

I don't consider myself old but over half the group was whining about being too old to ski aggressive anymore.... I personally subscribe to the following: Men do not quit playing because they get old, rather they get old because they quit playing.

Did knee bends, situps, push-ups and watched diet for about a month prior to trip.... Felt pretty good and lost 12 lbs to boot.
