Never liked that guy for some reason. His mom, however, I consider pretty cool. I remember watching her coronation on B&W TV thinking she was the prettiest queen.

Hopefully giving him a position elsewhere, to clear the way for the next generation in the homeland.

I've never cared much for him either, but more importantly don't think he is popular with the people at home. His mom sure has had a remarkable reign.

Cheers Richard

I live in a commonwealth country and can’t understand the point of the royal family. I think they have been pretty well marginalized.

For what it's worth? Well those who live with the tradition seem to like it...generally. He who would be king certainly has had to wait for it.

There is no such thing as "King" or "Queen" of the Commonwealth.
It's the head of the Commonwealth.. and it just happened to be King Edward and Queen Elizabeth before.

they just decided that he would become head of the commonwealth if he were to success QE as the monarch.

The product of several hundred years of pillaging and plundering, and still loved, supported, respected and idolized by some. Don't get it..

I don't think Charles is the big topic of idolization in the UK.. not him.
the Queen, sure, William, sure, Harry

But Charles?? He might have the odd old confused lady that had a crush on him back when she was young, but for the most part he's not that popular. definately not since Diana died and even less since he married Camilla.

And so why would the Queen not be supported loved, respected?
She's been a symbol of Britishness and served her people for a very long time..
It's not exactly a job with much freedom or real world power.

William flew Search and Rescue for the RAF and then for the Ambulance serive.
He didn't have to for the money, but he did it, and donated his salary to the Ambulance service.

And look at Harry, he went and served in cognito in Afghanistan, and all the British veterans love him for what he's done for them (like the Invictus games), they see him as one of their own..

Now look at who is being idolized in the US, and what money and lifestyle those people lead.

You guys have your own kind of "royalty", I doubt they do as much service over their lifespan.
Football players ? basketball players? Rappers with all them bling ?
How does their service to their country stack up against that of QE's service for hers?

Personally I wouldn't wanna live in a golden cage like that, where every minute of your day is under scrutiny.

Yes, it's the Queens 92nd birthday today and she's worked as Queen for over 70 years. Not an easy job. Constantly on the go, plolite meetings with people you hate, don't scratch your arse 200 cameras are on you, the Catholic Irish would love to kill you. The list goes on. The rest of us can go to the beach when we want to, she can't.

The Americans, the best offering is Kim Kardasian at the moment. Or maybe Kanye West.

She deserves a lot of respect.

Well said! I’m not a Monarchist, but I certainly respect their service. And despite Charles awkwardness in general, his passion for the environment and his commitment to locallly produced food has had impact, too.

I like him for his statement that when he is coronated, he will not say the line “defender of the faith” (Church of England), but instead “defender of faith”. And I’m an atheist, but an atheist who values diversity and is respectful of others beliefs.
