What, so you could put a wacky French braking system on it?

Brakes are brakes. Fiddly, complex and unreliable loses to simple and functional every single time.

Ted, you need to get some fresh air.

If you are after more than the look of a RR and want the ride quality of the Rolls, you need the brakes which are also part of the hydro pneumatic suspension.

I had no clue. Thank you for this.

Jeebus, that would take some tinkering if off keel.

You are welcome Bob!

There is a lot more than meets the eye with these RR.
One of the most common ways I have seen the brakes ruined is to top up the brake reservoir with brake fluid and not the hydraulic oil it requires.

So I start sniffing around. The Citroen DS hit in about '55.

When did RR license the braking technology?

Rolls-Royce started development of the Silver Shadow in the 1950s, right when Cadillac and Lincoln started selling monocoque land yachts. The Citroen system was state-of-the-art when they began but development was sloooow. They debuted the V8 engine in the Silver Cloud 3 in 1962, and the whole package (engine and hydraulics) debuted in 1965 for the 1966 model year. Ironically a big selling point was that the Shadow has more interior room than the Clouds, despite being smaller overall. Their obsessive worry about Cadillac, to me, sent them off course. Their cars would have been completely different if they'd seen Mercedes-Benz as a rival instead. The Shadow would have actually handled, rather than become a floating couch like the early US luxury standard. Ah, well.

The Silver Shadow pretty much killed their coachbuilding partners, as the monocoque was too much hassle to modify even a little. The Mulliner Park Ward and James Young coupes were the last gasps, and the MPW was hijacked to become the in-house Corniche soon after.

You are two IQ points shy of being an idiot. For you speak with out knowing anything about what you are talking about.

You tol' me and I just didn't listen.

To see the diagram puts it into perspective. It's another order of magnitude beyond complex.

Jeremy Clarkson said if a Rolls' pneumatic suspension broke down while you were in the factory, next to the bench where they built it, they couldn't fix it.

I drive past a house everyday going home from work where the owner is selling a boat and what appears to be 1970's a RR coupe. Clearly he does not make good purchasing decisions. ;)

Sorry, unconvinced that 1950's tech is going to be better than something a bit more modern

Ted, I aspire to be half as intelligent as you believe yourself to be, but I fear it may not be humanly possible.

No one said it was better. That is a subjective value judgement. It is what it is and for the time and British mentality of what they wanted to achieve they felt it was quite adequate.

Now you have come to your senses and are facing reality. A man has got to know his limitations. Now let's see if you can keep your new found awareness and not fall back into unconsciousness.

You seem to be fighting characters mostly of your own imagination having little to do with reality.
If people are not quite the enemy you think they are you make them that way in your mind and fight them here, does not seem like any body else can see what you are fighting and you come across as delusional, but having some knowledge and experience. But your knowledge and experience gets lost with your wild rantings like a old man swinging a cane in a park.

I and most others come to these PP forum to learn and maybe pass on some information, like I feel I have done here, you seem more interested in battle here than knowledge sharing.

Be specific in what you think I have been delusionaly ranting about. Spell it out chapter and verse. Otherwise it is just an I'll informed value judgement on your part.

As human beings we are all flawed have our limitations and failings. Since I was a young man I have been painfully aware of and shouldered the weight of those circumstances where I continually feel contrition. Which means you have arrived at the gates of heaven and have been given absolution.
