Sorry to hear of your loss of the fish.

An idea maybe to have a battery powered electric fence wire running around the outside of the pond. Something like 200mm off the ground. Then a few high tensile farm fence wires in the air above the pond. the birds won't like the idea of colliding with the hard to see wires. And the elec' fence will scare the chit out of any animal.

We had what we thought was a "mink attack" last year on our farm. We lost a dozen layer chickens in a week that were brutally attacked, and had only their heads eaten off in every case. We mounted motion detecting solar lights along the barn base, where the attacks had occured, and hopefully fixed the problem, (we also fortified the enclosure fences)....no problems since.

We had a Blue Heron eat several of our biggest Koi. More expensive than a sushi dinner.

The Blue Heron and any migratory bird is protected by federal law and one is not supposed to harass them at all. My dogs did not follow the federal laws as they can't read. It was amazing to see a 4 foot tall bird fly off in a flash.

After that we put up a chris cross of fishing line over the pond. It is much like a star of David shape only a little lopsided because of bushes on the edge of the pond.

That has kept the Blue Heron away. We did have two Koi vanish this spring. We don't know if it was a raccoon, snake, cat, or a bird that got two of them.

It sounds odd, but I've had the opposite happen. I've got more fish than I thought I had. There is a little guy called Jet, and as it turns out there are about four of Jet, about three of Sprite, two Mikeys, and three Little Chows

It must be the Fluval krill food they eat.
