FIs 2018 the last year for the Toyota 4Runner?

Today I was at the Toyota dealer looking at 4Runners. The salesman said 2018 is the last model year for the 4Runner. This was news to me as it seems to be a pretty popular SUV. Has anyone here heard the same thing? This will definitely affect any buying decision.

No, 2020 gets a redesign for the gen 6 though called the "TNGA-F platform," and there is talk of the V8 coming back since some CAFE might be getting rolled back. The 2GR-FKS in the couple 2018's I just got is still pretty anemic.

As I have mentioned in other threads, my desires to own a pick-up truck (Silverado or F150) have since moved towards the 4Runner. I wasn't always crazy about the latest styling, but it has grown on me. And recently we rented one on a vacation and I really enjoyed it.

Yeah, we love the old 4Runner. It has been a great, versatile truck. Today it got an amazing 21 MPG (really!) on a long trip. That saleman was a little glib about his statement that this was the last year, and I appreciate the good news that it will live on.

I actually really dig the current 4runner... especially the Trd Pro in Calvary blue!

I have the Gen 5. Its not the engine output, its the shift point in the transmission. The damn thing up shifts in a real hurry. it will shift into 5th at 40mph. The shift point is around 15-1700 rpm is you are not jamming on the gas. So, I just shift it myself. If you need to get out of traffic to safe your life, that drive by wire or whatever it is that's doing all the slow up, it will drive you nuts. Once you get going, it cruises great on the hwy at 75mph

I do, just a few, mainly NA's
One of our members had a discussion about the ND recently and I had a great time chatting with some other fellow Pelicans who have them too! It also made me sad because I still regret selling my Miatas.

I had an NA. Its a monster in the corners for such little car.

I forgot to respond to this earlier, put have you looked into the pedal commander? One of my friends got it for his 17' 4Runner and it has improved throttle response a lot. That will probably alleviate the short shifting pain that it wants to do.

BTW You should probably buy another NA before they become hard to find!

I bought a Trail Edition and gave it the "Pro" treatment. Great truck, could use some more power though. I like the way it looks, unlike most other SUV's.

Holy siht, Eric. I just put this thing on so I down the hill to get some gas and test it. That turned into a 15 mile drive to Arcadia. I am all smiles from ear to ear. To get that kind of power and shift point, the gas pedal must be pressed at about 80% now, its just a little stab of the pedal and its gone. Finally, it feels like a normal car. I am on Sport (max). Think I am going to leave it at that setting. Worth every penny. My truck got its balls re-attached. Thanks you very much for the tip. Beer on me when we meet up some day.

Do you ever go to Sherwood's tire kicking coffee meet at the theater up in La Canada?

Vash, I just put em' on last night at 11pm and it took all of 3 min. I am sure no mpg gain driving on the street. It just sends a stronger signal to the computer so it scoots along. I love the sport + or whatever the highest mode is because I only just need to jam on the gas pedal a little and it down shifts. fooking PDK in a lil' box for 300 bucks. I will report back as soon as I get a couple of tanks of gas through it.

What year is your truck? You should get it, its amazing how it feels compared to stock. It drives like a normal, old fashion cable vehicle. Get on the gas and it should go like it should. When you come down to LA (I should be in town) you are welcome to drive my 4 runner for comparison
