I'll be in Canada this weekend, just not in the Smurf.

Julie and I are taking the Clipper up to Victoria for the weekend.

Once the house sells and we settle into the new place I'll hopefully have some time to devote to the car...whether driving or finally getting around to installing that bench full of goodies.

Ross and I are leaving from the Chevron Station at Frontier Village tomorrow morning at 6:15 am. If anyone else is meeting us there, let us know. My gas tank's full, and the drinking water is cold - I'm ready.

We're back!

Wow, excellent day of "spirited" driving.

Had a great turnout, I counted 16 cars. Thanks to everyone who attended, and I hope you all got home safe. Thanks also for Ross, and Rex/Kim for coming all the way from Seattle.

We had a wet start, but once out of Hope, it was clear skies.

Some pic's for your entertainment.

This tour turned out to be another success with the weather cooperating.

Paul gave us the heads up on the possibility of a cop waiting for us on the descent into Cache Creek - Rob going in the opposite direction up the hill signaled to confirm. Thanks guys - I think the cop would have directed us all into the parking lot and force us to contribute to the local economy...

Great to meet all and new friends.

Kim and I had a great day with our neighbors to the North. This drive didn’t have a lot of tight twisty corners like Oregon. It was more of long fast sweepers. That’s not to say there weren’t some twisty roads – just the majority of the roads were more open and fast. I’ll remember the section just before we got to Spences Bridge for a long time – great section. I won’t go into any more details; let’s just say it was a lot of fun.

The day for us started at 5:45 am and ended after 8:30 pm. That’s about 15 hours – enough to beat Gunter for time in the saddle. We met Ross in Frontier Village at 6:15 am and headed up Hwy 9 all the way to Sumas. We liked that route enough that Kim and I also went that way back home. We gassed up before the border, and met everyone else in Abbotsford. It had been raining heavily on an off near the border, and now it rained on us as we waited to take off from Abbotsford.

For those of you with a map we went from Abbotsford to Hope, and then up to Merritt, where we said goodbye to Ross (visiting someone in Eastern Washington), and picked up Gunter. Then off to Lower Nicola, Spences Bridge, Cache Creek, Pavillion, Lillooet, Spuzzum, and back to Hope. A long day, but a fun one.

Thanks Al for a taking on the lead. We had a great day!

We were one of the cars that broke off and went west on the Duffey Lake. We had some great scenery but that road is in tough shape. I would like to see some fresh pavement before I drove it again. Hope to see everyone on the North Cascades run next month. Brian

Hi all,

I forgot to say hello to most of you but my girlfriend and I were in the Targa that joined the convoy in Princeton. It was a nice drive with perfect weather. Hope to see you guys again soon!

Vince, sorry for the rude passing just as we left Princeton, I'd lost my camera there (stupid me!!!) and was in a little pissy mood. How uncool. Sorry again.

Speaking of which, did anyone in the group by any chance pick up a Canon A95 camera at the Chevron station? I left it on one of the picnic tables and it was gone by the time convoy was leaving. That was really stupid.

Hey Won,

No worries with the pass - I didn't think it was rude at all. In fact, I was looking for a safe opening to let you through. Sorry to hear about the camera though.

See you around at the next drive or other CWR events!

Vince

Vince,

It was a real treat for us to see you and your car. I was hoping to be the earliest car there, but your 73 was beautiful. Glad to see you getting it out for some much needed exersice.

Thanks Rex. I'm really into the narrow-body look and yours is a fine example! I would love to trade rides the next time. Also, I'll have to check out the Oregon twisties you mention.

Hope to see you all on July 14-15 for the West Kootenay run.
Won: Did you check with Chevron in case someone turned in the camera?
Nice, clean '83 SC. Consider installing the bump-steer kit and raise the front 1"; you'll love it. If you want to spend more $, get the turbo tie rods at the same time unless the old ones are still tight.

Gunter, it was nice to finally meet you. Yes we checked with the station twice but no luck. On Sunday for the drive back when the car was fully loaded with camping gear the bump steer was really noticeable. I am definitely putting in the spacers soon. The fronts are around 25" with half-tank of gas; I liked the slightly more raked look but I may raise it half an inch. The original tie rods seem tight enough at autoxes, besides I should start saving up for something else... burnt 1 liter of oil over 650 miles on this trip, and I remember last summer it was up around 1L/1000mi. I've seen the stream of blue smoke on off-throttle and 6k+ RPM two or three times since taking off the catalytic converter last April.

Phew.

Won:
Don't worry too much about oil consumption; at spirited driving, it always uses more.
When doing the front, turn the adjusters equally to come up ~1/2".
Use oil on the adjuster bolts before turning.
It helps if the car is on stands (No weight on the front wheels)
Use anti-seize grease on the new bolts for the kit.
