My friend was robbed!
Someone broke into my friend's home yesterday while he was at work. The a-holes took all of his guitars. They just tossed them on the bed and rolled them up in the quilt. Didn't even bother to take the cases which were right there in the same room. These are 4 special guitars and even more important to a guy who can make a living playing. Thankfully the thieves did not enter the garage. The 911 is fine.
So here I am thinking about what I need to do in my own home to make my place more secure. I have a couple doors that need to be replaced including the man door in my garage. I'm rethinking where and how I keep things. I have good outdoor lighting, but most burglaries happen during the day while homes are empty. I have dogs, which are a strong deterrent, but maybe I should have another larger dog? Or a moat filled with alligators. I hate this. Thanks for listening. Sharon

Geez Sharon, that really sucks. Few things will make someone feel more violated than that. Hopefully his stuff will be recovered, although the chances are quite slim. Keep an eye on Craig's List - a lot of stollen stuff winds up there for sale.
Neighborhood watches and alarm systems seem to be the best deterents for these daytime burglaries. Most neighborhoods have someone home at all times of the day, with as much as our schedules vary from one another's. Our neighborhood, for example, has everything form retired folks to college students to guys who work night shifts to us regular "nine to fivers", so it's pretty rare that every house is empty, if ever. If that's the case, take advantage of that, and get the neighbors together and set up a neighborhood watch. Most police departments have folks who will help organize these things.

David, are you the friend? If so, I feel for you. Nothing sucks like being ripped off.

Rich, yes it is me.
I have spent 40 plus years searching for the right guitars and sound. I've been OK with these 6 guitars and my vintage effects for a long time, now they are gone! David |

David, I feel for you. It sucks to be ripped off. But please don't take your frustration out on the people on this forum...we are your friends. Ted meant no harm in his post. He was simply playing off of Sharon's comment "maybe I should have another larger dog? Or a moat filled with alligators".
We all wish you luck getting back to where you were before this ordeal.

Man, I am so sorry to hear about your guitars. I have had a guitar stolen in the past and it is heart breaking. I know it's a long shot but I deal in vintage guitars and instruments, if you have some pics and the serial numbers and you feel comfortable sending them to me, drop me a pm. I go to all the vintage guitar shows and know lots of people in the trade.
Best, Reed Griffin |
