Hi!
It is best to use acrylic-based paints, such as Angelus Leather Paint or Maui Gel. After painting, be sure to use conditioners and protective coatings to maintain the flexibility of the leather. Last edited by mikeR91; 04-03-2025 at 02:08 AM.. |

Thanks for the information. Products I used years ago are no longer available. |

I used autoleatherdye.com in my 996 3 years ago to change the entire interior from brick red to black. Came out great and still holding up

I used a tandy leather product, it worked very well tandy and radio shack were united, Im not sure if tandy still exists.
I think a paint sits on top but a dye absorbs so I'd be trending toward a dye. I also bought a product to make it shiny, it worked fine but I did a dashboard and found glossy caused annoying reflection. ok on seats I think . for vinyl I use vinylhide or was it vinylhide? might be a similar name, years back.. it came in spray cans, melts into the vinyl and it lasted very well. I dyed tan and green seats black and it never wore off at all. even did a headliner, in place. nasty job spraying it upwards but it worked out well. I used seatdoctors for the dye. I ended up airbrushing (about $150 for equipment), because I had to hide repairs and it's hard to get an even thick coat by hand. Here's a finished and unfinished side by side. I had alread applied a few coats by hand but it is hard to get good even coverage. Also the finish with make a huge difference to the final hue (matte can look greyish and too shiny and it will look plasticky.
