Deep scratches in "self healing" PPF?

So... heading to a concert a few weeks ago. Ahead of me some stakebed with poorly covered load loses several plastic gutter sections and one tags the hood of my wife's Macan. I looked at it quickly and thought "that will come out" but so far, no joy. I tried a heat gun and also pouring hot water over the marks but our "self healing" PPF still looks damaged and I can't tell if it went all the way into the paint.

Does this just need to be peeled off, paint inspected, and reapplied? Any other tricks of the trade?
