New Paint Job, Dull Hazey Door?
I had i beautifull paint job donein another state, everything is great except the drivers door, he said the air hose ruubed the door and he did his best to repair it but siad it will have to wet sanded after it set's up, he dicounted the job quite a bit since i can't get back over several state to have him do it. It really does not look that bad as is but when i point it out people see it and that bothers me, i do not know how to attempt the process, perhaps i should bring it to another paint shop or try it myself, with proper direction, i am pretty good with mechanics, but i dont want to make a not so bad look worse any words of wisdom? Would a good compound aleviate the dullness the wax? IT IS PRETTY MUCH THE CENTER AREA THE OUTER AREAS OF THE DOOR LOOK FINE.

Robert, was he shooting a single stage or a duplex paint?
If it was a single stage, you might be able to have it wet sanded, compounded and then buffed out, to bring out the shine. If it is a duplex paint, is the defect in the base coat or the top coat? If it is in the base coat, you are pretty much screwed, and will have to get the door repainted. If it is in the clear top coat, it can be wet sanded, compounded and buffed out to bring out the shine, hopefully, to match the rest of the car. Quit pointing it out to people. If they don't mention it, don't worry about it too much. I know, it is just you knowing that it is not exactly right, why you feel this way. Good luck!! Tony.

Thanks for the info, it is in the top coat, he did his best to correct the problem when it happened but he said to do it right the job would have to cure or dry thourghly before he could resolve the problem correctly. Perfect job everywhere else, why did it have to be the drivers door why not the chin spoiler, you get my drift. Should i try a store bought rubbing compound or do you think i will make it waorse. The paint is now over a year old is it too late to wet sand? I did assist in wet sandding a car i had painted 20 years ago, it was ferrari red and i remember the entire driveway where we did it was "RED". I just don't recall or for that matter don't know how to do it. My main concern is not to make it worse. Thanks again

Robert, so it is actually in the clear coat? You state, "top coat" that could be either the top coat of a single stage paint, or the top coat of a duplex paint. If it is actually in the clear coat, you DO NOT WANT any color to come off, because what you are wet sanding is the clear coat surface, and if you start seeing color on your sandpaper you have gone to far/deep and have gotten into the base coat. Then the door will have to be re-cleared. If it is a single stage paint, you will get some color coming off, because you are removing a small amount of paint, in order to get a smooth finish. Good luck!! Tony.

You will want to start with a 1500 grit wet sand paper and work up to a 2000 grit. is the spot bad enough to see in a picture. What color is the car?
