Ruf/935 mirror install?

Hello gentlemen,

I would like the bodywork experts opinion/help. I would like to have install RUF/935 mirrors on my 930. I want it done the right way, by way of welding the vacant holes left by the flag mirrors. Can someone give a roundabout as to how much I should expect to spend on the mirror conversion. I called one shop and was told it was going to be around $2.5k.

I live in New Jersey, if anyone knows of a qualified shop/shops in the NJ area with an excellent background on this type of mod/add on on Porsche's. Feel free to let me know.

Thanks

Rey

It sounds very high.

$500 per side would be fair with paint.

I have had quotes for tig welding rear steel flares, much harder job
for 1k each with paint.

Having done this I think this depends on the condition of your current paint and to what degree the paint needs to be blended with the rest of the car. New paint on a car with 20 year old paint (even if garaged) will stand out so a blend will be necessary. Normally you cannot simply repaint the doors unless your paint is new or in exceptional condition and depends on colors as well. The degree of blend will drive the price up.

The mirrors are up high on the door and will catch your eye. There is a fair amount of welding to cover the holes and to be done right without panel distortion requires a skilled welder as you do not want lots/much filler. They will also want to disassemble the doors and prime the inside as well so there will be no rust to accumulate where the weld has occured.

When the work is completed the best way to attach the mirrors is with the commercial 3M adhesive tape (in black) be sure to use the blackouts inside the glass on the interior to hide the mirror's inerds.

$2500 sounds fair if the work is superb...this is not a simple task and it will take at least a week to complete.

Well, not sure if it makes it faster but yes very pleasing aesthetically.

On the performance side the weight difference is measured in grams(935 mirrors) vs. lbs for the flags and it does all add up.

Another pic on the ground and in the wild:
