71 911T Wing Joining Plate

I removed the fenders from my 71 911T Targa and discovered some rust on the wing joining plates that locate and fasten the fenders to the body at the A-pillar on both sides. When I researched replacement parts, I noticed they don't fully resemble the existing parts on my car. I've highlighted in green the portion of my joining plates that seems to be missing, and included a pic of the advertised replacements.

Can anyone tell me what happened? Did a PO just cut out a rusty portion on the original?

It's missing a section. Why? It's a high rust area.
Here are a couple pics from searching.

Thanks, Ed.
I didn't see any remnant of the weld flange on the driver side, so I wasn't sure. Is the best solution replace them? Or do people patch them? First time doing this part for me, but the welder has seen some good action on this car already

As Ed said above, a very common area for rust. The standard is to replace the complete, fender joining panel. Not a bad job just do a trial fender fit prior to welding the FJP.
Note, your car should use FJP with the welded nuts, not the later style with clip on nuts. Rob

Thanks for the help. I did notice the existing ones don't use the clips. Will definitely do the trial fit first! Truth be told that's what I'm most concerned about –*ensuring clean smooth alignment of the fender panel with the door and hood.

I think it's just a matter of spot weld cutting, metal prep, weld-thru primer and plug welding the new FJP.

Also looks like a heavy coat of Wurth stoneguard once it's all secure

Don’t forget to seam seal prior to your stone guard topcoat. Rob

I'm having trouble locating the right hardware for the weld nut version FJP.
I think the Katalog says it's:
  • M6 x 20 bolt (900 378 030 09)
  • B6 lock ring (900 027 014 01)
  • B6 washer (900 151 006 09)

The bolt picture on Stoddard looks a little different, and Pelican doesn't have a matching part number. Can someone tell me if I'm looking at the right hardware?
