Proper way to lift up your 1964 356
Just recently purchased my first 356. Am excited to learn more about my car. But first off, I need help on learning the proper way to lift my car. From what I can gather, the rear can best be lifted by the transmission bracket with a floor jack. The front..lift at the diagonal area. Please advise.
Thank you in advance Pics would be better if you have any |

I have used the engine at the rear and axle beam at the front. AS far as I know the entire 356 weighs around 2,000#

It is my understanding that the transmission bracket, or hoop, is a good strong place to lift the car in the rear. That is the place I have used for over 52 years. I'm not sure about the "axle beam" in the front. That may be in reference to the tubes for the transversely mounted torsion bars which are just straight springs. The front suspension is made up of dual trailing arm links with an anti roll bar mounted transversely. There is no axle in the front, however, the torsion bar tubes are also very strong points for lifting. I have also been comfortable with lifting the car at other various points using a piece of wooden 2 X 4 to spread the weight bearing over a much bigger area.

At the front, lift it with the jack under the lower torsion bar tube. The front anti-roll bar is right in front of it so the jack will catch it too. Don’t worry about that, you won’t hurt it..

More important is how to close the frunk (front trunk). Never pull down. Always disengage the holder by pushing back up. Same goes for the rear hood, but its stubby and less prone to pull down damage.
