Dash Gauge Lights

All the dash gauge lights on my 1963 Porsche 356 SC seem to be working apart from the fuel and oil temp back lights. Is it correct these should be lit?

I can see from the back of the gauge the 4 connections for the coloured lights along the middle of the gauge for the brake, Generator, Oil warning, blind lens, parking brake light, but I'm not sure where the fuel and oil temp back lights are and how to replace the bulbs. Any guidance appreciated.

Evo, the combo gauge has one back light. Look at the wire color of the other intrument lights, should be the same. Pull the socket out of the gauge and replace the bulb. It gets it's ground from the gauge. I believe the wire should be grey according to Joe Leoni's book.
Good luck,
Rusty

Thank and you're welcome. Bill Block sells the Joe's Electrical books and has one specific for each model. Google Block Books.
I'm partial to the 356, I also have a 61 Sunroof 1600S. A true rode hard and put away wet shape.

the light just to the right of center with a green lens is capped, that is the illumination bulb. This is when you are looking at the gauge face from the driver's seat. Just pull the bulb holder out from behind and replace the bulb. I would suggest upgrading to 6v LED lights, vastly improves visibility.

Thanks CASair ... I feel rather foolish as I never realised the 'blind lens' was the back lighting. I moved the parking brake bulb into the 'right of centre' (blind lend) as you suggested and the back lighting worked. I put the bulb back into the parking brake lighting and I'll get a new bulb for the back lighting.

Thanks folks for your help with this forum thread ... its appreciated.
