FS: Solid shaft Solex 40 PII-4 Carburetors
For Sale
Pair of solid shaft Solex 40 PII-4 Carburetors. SN 22312 and 22343 $300 + actual shipping Per the data in Duane Spencer's book, "The Complete Porsche 912 Guide", these carburetors were manufactured between mid 1961 and around 1963. They have the smaller diameter vent tube on the carb top as did the earliest carbs, wich were introduced in 1960 on the 356 Super 90. Per Duane, the trouble with the 40 PII-4 carbs before mid 1961 is that they had a dependent idle circuit, meaning that changes to the main jets impacts the idle setting. That makes these carbs the perfect replacement for the early carbs. They have the same appearance, but internal design changes make them much easier to tune, and a very good replacement for these early, tempermental carbs on your early 356. The set I have here is complete with throttle arms, all hardware, mixture screws, jets, and so on. The throttle shafts move freely and they are clean and dry. There is only a small amount of wear on one of the throttle bores, I suspect that a cleaning, set of gaskets, and proper jetting would put these back into daily service.
