Using 3.2 pistons require opening small end of rods one mm and you can offset for rod length.

Thanks for the clarification.

I would think if you were going to replace a single SC P&C "on a budget", one should just buy a single used SC 3.0 P&C after this info.

chrisbalich I like it. Honestly, it doesn't seem all that different, maybe a little smoother power delivery.

So as expected, once out there were all kinds of issues.

The linkage on the motor was mostly seized up, that's what caused the original problem. Replace those bushings with the copper ones if you haven't.

The pop-off valve had been installed incorrectly, so that if it needed to pop it would hang up. That's fixed.

The cat was trashed. The old heat exchangers were rusting up.

The transmission looked great - at first glance. It had been rebuilt at some point. I always had trouble with 1st and 2nd but thought, well, you know... 915.
Turns out a part was on backwards and was chewing off the dog teeth on 2. So that came off, got flipped to the proper direction, and 2 was repaired.

Replaced the clutch and all the various parts while it was out.

Man I wish we could buy parts as cheap as you guys can in the states. If I do try and buy them from over there the postage kills me!

just catching up to this thread ....

When I did my engine rebuild I put in 964 cam grind and when I put on the SSis this spring I noticed a marked improvement in mid range torque by my Butt dyno.

Bruce.

is it possible to machine out the stock 3.2 cylinders ( imagine you would have to replate with nikasil too ) then put in JE pistons without touching the rods ?
I thought I read that somewhere but I'm just not sure.

You need 3.2 cylinders to open to 98mm because of the sealing rings on a 3.0.
This opens to 3.2ss. With Carrera crank and rods it becomes 3.4 but you have to designate which application you’re using as they don’t interchange.
