I am still running an old Blaupunkt unit (London RDM 126) with an external bluetooth module (AUX input). Works fine, but the display seems to fail now.
Considering this new Blaupunkt but I have a windshield antenna ('85 Carrera) and I do NOT want to drill a hole for an extra antenna.
Anybody have any experience with DAB+ foil antenna's & where would you place/hide them for optimal reception ?

A European market radio won't likely work on North American station frequency spacing will it?

Yes, looks like DAB only, and the picture is still a rendering...speculative of course, but it could be a long time before N.A. sees this.

Meanwhile, Spring is on the way, so after a lot of handwringing, I've decided not to wait and instead ordered the Continental and harness parts from BergvillFx this morning.

Get a SmartPhone for $25 and use as IPOD

I have Verizon and still my Amazon Prime streaming service interrupts 5 times on the road.....necessitating, unlocking the phone, push play, the nanny volume warns me that loud volume will harm my ears......and finally we're back mid-tune?

What the heck? This is dangerous, particularly in our cars shifting and moving.

I'm taking control back. Bought an LG Smartphone from a pay as you go company for $25 and didn't activate. Downloaded my entire library into the memory. No more disruptions, no compression and the phone hooks up to WiFi when I'm home.....best 'IPod' I ever had.

BTW, I stream through a Porsche CDR-220 with a small clean amp....love it!

Or this. Sounds as good if not better than a cassette tape when played through the FM tuner. Also the navigation directions are heard through the car's sound system.

It's better than lossless streaming too. "Lossy" or "lossless" only refers to the compression algorithm used to create the digital file. It has nothing to do with the fidelity of the source being recorded. You can play a 50-year old cassette on a 50-year old portable cassette player into a computer and record it losslessly. The result is a very high quality sound file of a horrible source.

It is that principle that allows purveyors of streaming music and downloadable files to dupe the general public into buying poor fidelity music recordings wrapped up in so-called hi-resolution files. People think it sounds better because the file is hi-rez. They don't understand that the vast majority of "hi-rez" streaming and downloaded files are nothing more than CD-quality ripped files put into "hi-rez" containers.

There are billions of music CDs out there in use today, and they're not going away anytime soon. Even with the overuse of dynamic compression in the last 20 years (the loudness war), they still represent the best fidelity you can buy, with the exception of new music being recorded in high resolution and delivered in a high resolution medium, such as SACD (or DSD files), DVD-Audio and Blu-ray Audio. That represents about .001% of what's being produced.

To update this thread.
I have emailed Blaupunkt about the release and the DAB. Should be out in July and has a world tuner feature. US FM is not an issue.

Hello Mr. Wilkins,

Thank you for your interest in one of our products.

The device will be released for the first time in the end of June and we will inform you as soon as we have the first devices in stock.
Then we can also tell you how and where you can order the device.

You are right. Our new Bremen SQR 46 DAB use DAB.
But the unit use also a switchable FM World Tuner so you can use the radio also for FM radio in USA.

Mit freundlichen Grüßen / Best regards

Include BT or not, I don’t care. I like the idea of choosing a bunch of CDs before leaving on a road trip and then having a limited set of choices. Yep, I’m weird
Your not weird. I can’t stand those ridiculous cds are obsolete you need to learn to stream comments I always see in these type of threads.

I have at least 150,000 (thousand) songs on my hard drive with everything organized into playlists on various iPods iPhones and iPads and usb drives. I love to stream and have been doing so since 2001

But, I also love to use CDs and the failure to include a cd drive with this new head unit is a major bummer

I was just checking into this new Blaupunkt and found there is a little bit more info on the Blaupunkt site. Also a newer pic that looks like an actual production unit. The appearance has changed subtly.

Available from July 2019, according to classic car stereo site. Let's hope it hits the USA this summer. Currently about $500+ if the Euro pricing holds, and is accurate.

Glad to see they brought the bass and treble clefs back, as a nod to the original...

Looks like Blaupunkt finally woke up to the consumers desire for clean design.
