Race motor& engine tin?
Does a race motor need engine tin around outside of motor?
|
All aircooled engines need the tin, the efficiency of the fan and overall cooling relies on it.
|
Yep, keep the hot side and the cold sides of the engine segregated.
|
in addition to what's been suggested a ton of crud would make it's way into the motor compartment. weeds & dust should you or somebody else go off track dragging debris out onto the track surface. rubber slag finds it's way into all kinds of places, and simple grime from use.
try a search for Sheridan motorsports of paso robles CA. they produce some nice fiberglass engine shroud and tin options that might be up your alley if the tin is not in in your estimation. |
No. I have run mine without tins or ill effect for 20 + years. I know many others that do as well. Many.
No issues with heat or debris. |
Tin
I have run with out for 20 plus years on the race cars no issues, on a street car I can see the advantage with keeping the heat separated in traffic and debris

A lot of race cars run without tin. Can't do the same in a street car that is often stop and go and stop.
