Broken strut tower mount?

Hello,

Going in to replace the front shocks, and after removing the carpet the first thing I notice is what looks like broken top mounts. Could someone help me identify what is going on here?

Thank you, pics below.

Hard to say. Do the right and left look the same. Can you move it? Does it make any noise?

Which rubber would I replacing it with? There are few different ones on the Pelican site. The rubber below the big gold washer looks new.

This piece?: https://www.pelicanparts.com/More_Info/RENS98A01P.htm?pn=REN-S-98A01P&SVSVSI=0787&DID=41700

I’m replacing the current shocks with these:

The thread previously mentioned does not include a conclusion. No help
Scrape away the sealant and see if the metal is torn. All bushings should be replaced if it has not been done.
Control arms, strut, perhaps ball joints and tie rod ends.

Yep I’m putting in:
New control arms with associated bushings
Sway bar bushings
21/27mm torsion bars
Elephant Racing basic strut brace
Turbo tie rods
New shocks front and rear

For the strut tower tower I’m just not sure what bushings I should be purchasing. I understand now that the tops of the struts/shocks are supposed to be able to move, thatsbreason for all the rubber

However, I’m not sure how to tell if metal has torn.

I never replaced the hardened goop with anything after I chipped it off a decade or more ago (wear safety glasses!). I do drive the car in the rain, never had an issue or water ingress.

just get the entire metal with rubber piece from the dealer - besides, clean new non-rusty metal, you will be sending a "market signal" to Porsche that the old cars still matter

What looks brittle is just old hardened factory sealant.

All OK

That's what my struts looked like, it wasn't a lot of fun cleaning up that crap for my strut brace.

Doesn't look to me like anything is broken. You are looking at that god awful tar that the factory gooped on. Scrape that all off.

Hard to tell if your rubber bushings are warn. Mine are still OK.

Okay, thank you all for that. I’ll clean it up.

Follow up question: I’m having a heck of a time removing the gland nut holding the shock into the strut. I tried a pipe wrench, didn’t budge. Got a pin spanner, and it still won’t come out. Do I need to remove these washers (pic below) first? If so, how? If not, any tips on removing the gland nut? I sprayed PB blaster into the threads...trying with all my strength to get it off

Well I think all it took was for me to make that post. Pin spanner be damned, switched back to a pipe wrench and it spun off.
