The Optima site "doesn't have a battery" for the 911 series, so which red top are you running?

I believe that you can use any redtop, as long as it's got top posts. Some have top posts, some have side posts, and some have both. I believe the one I am running is 800S - it just has top posts.

One of the threads I stumbled on, on this BB, said the Optima requires the alternator to work too hard and burns out prematurely with the Optima?

an optima is not going to make your alternator to wear out! you are getting a fed a line of bull. i run them in everything i have and had never experianced any troubles what so ever. if you need one let me know i have 2 extra red tops forsale that are new.

My Optima and Alternator have been getting along fine for the past 5+ years.
