RIP- Chuck Stoddard
Just heard of his passing today from a mutual friend. What an icon. When I started in this Porsche ride back in the late 60's his dealership was mecca. I remember drooling over his "outlaw" 914-6 (before there were outlaws!) at Lake Geneva Parade (my first) in 1972.
A friend and I drove his 911 from IA to OH to have him fix a fender bender as he trusted no one in Iowa City at the time... Lots of great memories.. RIP

Sad to see. In a world of "I want it now!', he was a guy who helped to ensure the first Porches kept running.

A big loss for the Porsche community.
Chuck had a 917 that he used to bring to PCA DE events back in the 70s when I was a kid. What a treat to drool over a real 917! Chuck also responded to a wanted ad of mine in Panorama years ago, and we talked for a bit. I remember asking him “is this THE Chuck Stoddard?” RIP |

Definitely his dealership was one of the places to visit back in the 70s and 80s, and his move of purchasing Porsche’s inventory of 356 parts certainly helped keep lots of cars rolling along.

Gees i just saw him at the last Stoddard swap meet puttering around in his little motorized scooter. Many had no idea what an icon he was, puttering along in his little scooter stopping occasionally to talk to a vendor. I was way too intimidated to go up and say hello, but at that time wondered how many more times i would see him.
The swap meets over in Willoughby were awesome. I remember they had dyno out back , you could tour the restoration shop, everyone was so proud to work there and show what they were doing. One of the mechanics told me the process of removing broken exhaust studs and give me the confidence to do it. In fact that's where i bought my 4 7" Fuchs for 500 bucks. was a while ago but very fond memories RIP Mr. Stoddard.

I watched Chuck drive the 917 at Mosport years ago. And, yes, his shop showroom was a museum. One time I drove down to get some Conv D parts, and Chuck served me. I needed a left latch post of the door, so he pulled down the attic stairway and disappeared for a while before returning with a NOS Drauz part; sticker and all. He said that if hadn't come in person then I would have be shipped a cabriolet part needing modifications. He was a really great guy to talk to. The parts deals they had back in the mid to late 70's were awesome!
