Carrera oil cooler and horn relocation install pics
I know there are tons of posts on Carrera oil cooler installs, I think I've browsed them all. But, good pictures are always helpful so I thought I'd post my pictures and let them tell the tale of my install.
1978 SC with 3.2 swap. I'm not installing a fan, so if you do you may want more room in front of the cooler. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

I have been told no fan will still have heat issues. Can you report back on your findings? On hot days (95F temps) cruising at ~85mph, 3400 RPM I can see temps reach ~215 - ~220 - needle touching the top of the 210 numbers over a 30 min drive. While those don't concern me too much I would like to keep the car a shy lower. Its fun to watch the car get to ~185 and then drop down a little as soon as the t-stat opens to allow the cooled trombone oil back into the mix.

I actually have the Carrera fan, but would rather not have the added "stuff" if not needed. If I'm wrong (no big surprise there) I can swing the lower mount rearward and install the fan... I'll be sure to update with my results!

I run a 44 row Setrab cooler in the fender for my twin plug ITB EFI 2.8 engine and even with the 6" fan cranking it still creeps just a bit over the 210 mark, but usually only when wringing it out up to 8k. Never much over that temp but on really hot days I've decided it just plain is what it is. Temp does go down a bit with easier 'normal' driving for sure though. I might try a slightly bigger 50 row unit but I really don't think it will make that much of a difference. I think the only time a real difference is seen is when the cooler is mounted up front and sees constant direct airflow. The fender stuff is just limited.

I did something similar with braketry, but decided to use the Hella Supertone horns to try to awaken brain-dead, textng drivers.

Nice bracket, very clean.
I replaced my stock horns with Supertones when I added the Carrera cooler. They don't have the trumpets so they are a lot more compact. However the diameter is larger so that presents some different challenges. Turned out okay and works with no changes to the factory wiring. I don't have a fan on my cooler either. I has only gotten hot on me once, after driving for a while then sitting for a long time in stop and go traffic in about 95 degree weather.

I had Supertones but they were not loud enough for me. I live in Florida and the idiots abound. I replaced mine with an air horn...
I have Singer style headlights (Hella LED) which required my oil cooler to be moved up the right fender for clearance.

We did have to remove the front bumper and metal oil cooler guard to gain access, but then everything was quite easy. The horns were not functioning well (just got a little beep from them, so the Supertones seem quite loud in comparison. Since then, i’ve Learned that there is an adjustment on the horns to achieve good function, but I’m happy with my set-up.

Got the oil lines and thermostat installed today. Tightening the fittings in situ looked difficult so I decided to get all the fitting angles correct and tighten as a unit on my bench and install complete.
I did not realize at first that the thermostat is is rotated 30-40* from the brass lines. Once I got that dialed in things came together OK. With the proper high clearance wrenches it would probably be easier to install on the car, a piece at a time. Nice but why put them in front of the radiators airflow?
I did this some years ago and found I needed the fan in Az summers in stop/go...also blocked off the bottom forcing air thru at speed...cut out plastic...is one of the best upgrades one can do.

Tell me about the bottom block off plate, sounds interesting. Did you remove the side marker to duct air in from the front?

I run generally 195- 205/210 in the dead of summer with 110 ambient. I remove the lower block off in our cooler weather to keep the oil temp up. I replaced/moved the horns with smaller Italian round ones totally out of that space.

Here is a pic....1/4 inch extruded foam/plastic...I use it for here and there stuff and a heat gun will shape it any way you like.
