Dropped valve adjusting nut
Dropped valve adjusting nut on cylinder #5 intake side. Any help or guidance is appreciated. Tried a magnet no luck, cant even visually see it. Thanks in advance for any guidance and help.

The cam housing doesn´t have holes in it, so rest assured that the nut is there hiding in a crevice. Keep fishing around with your magnet and you will eventually locate it.

You can buy boroscopes that wirelessly use your phone or laptop as a screen. They run ~$25 on amazon and work surprisingly well. They have a very small camera head with a built in LED light. Mine has been worth every penny for the - oh **** moments.

A shop vac may come in handy also.

There are exposed holes in the cam housing leading to the oil drain back tubes. If the nut doesn’t appear elsewhere, suspect one of those tubes. Get a light in there and take a look. Good luck.

I'd just use a magnet on a flexi-stick thing first

If you don’t have a flexible magnet you can make one up PDQ. Use a stiff piece of copper wire (one strand) and insert it into small vacuum line. At the end of the vacuum line stick a small magnet like from a pocket screwdriver achieving a tight fit. The usually powerful magnet can be bent about anywhere.

I spent ages fishing around for a broken off feeler gauge tip, then found it sitting on the tinwork. Relief.

Careful with magnets not firmly affixed to your holder. I'd opt for a low-tech, cheapie magnet - just enough to retrieve an errant fastener.
A high-end neodymium magnet will be difficult to retrieve if it's stuck onto an internal engine component. Sherwood |

To clean up the threads on the adjusting stem in order to set a more accurate valve clearance.
