x-faktory 2.2E to 2.5SS

It's a filthy bugger, but should clean up nicely......with lot's of new, shiny bits on the shelf......tearing it down, with heads going to CGarr shortly for rebuild, case headed to Ollies......and much more.

stay tuned.....

regards,
al

I have a 2.5SS planned for my SWT targa.

What's the engine plan?

MFI? Cams the same?

a slight return

Wow....this project has been on hold for quite a while.....while awaiting the return of the case from Ollie's....lot's of work required on the 2.2E case. in addition to the usual machining, opening the spigots, time-certs, oi squirters etc...this required align boring, machining back to standard, a bit of welding.....and on and on.

In the meantime, I've been getting all of the bits clean, powder-coated and so on.

Today, I blew the dust off of my injector tester/cleaner and cleaned and tested the MFI Injectors.
I bought this device about 10 years ago from a company that specializes in older Mercedes. They built these testers for the diesel injectors.....but they work well for the MFI injectors and I've made adapters for CIS injectors and even EFI injectors.....very handy as you can simple testing of opening pressure, spray pattern and clean out the injectors with this thing........

pressure tester

I have similar setup and works great.I have a pedal cluster with master cylinder to push the pistons out of calipers for the last 45 years for the bench to rebuild brake calipers. It is cool to be a TOOL.Like Nietzche said you are what you pretend to be sometimes.Ciao Fred

I just checked and the company that I bought that tester from is still in biz...here's a link..

I like the master cylinder idea Fred......

about flippin time

Well, at long last, I've received the 2.2-2.5 case back from Ollie's......shipped it out on 03/30, received it back this week....Just shy of 6 months and lot's more work required than I anticipated. Definitely the full-meal deal on this one, but as usual, their work is a thing of beauty.......

Test fit one of the cylinders....like butta!

Onward with the build!

Awesome!!! I am so looking forward to seeing the final product. Brad has let me drive "The Bean" on a few occasions, and it was fun as hell in 2.2 E trim. This motor will increase that fun factor several fold. A screaming' 2.5 SS seems like the perfect fit for that car. This is going to be so cool...

Jeff,
I am really looking forward to this build..........this should be nothing but fun.
Jumping ahead.....I'll be doing the prelim burn-in/tuning on my test stand and then down to the Shop for install into Brad's 911. We may need to call on the "MFI whisperer" to dial this baby in.

regards,
al

closer

Getting closer to 2.5SS MFI goodness.......

One minor issue........as I was starting to clean up the tensioners....one of them is missing the small part that must be press fit into the top of the tensioner. Is this a pressure relief valve or? Can it be repaired? Does anyone have the part that gets pressed in?

ready????

I have the 2.5SS on the test stand.....ignition is wired up and fuel is plumbed...however, my regulator is not able to regulate my Carrera fuel pump low enough to meet the MFI spec.....I need to install a lower pressure pump om monday. I couldn't wait, however and shot some starting fluid down the stacks to verify things were hooked up correctly...oil pressure was present etc......fired up 1st try, oil pressure looks good, etc....and it sounded great...for the few seconds it ran. I'll have to wait until Monday to run it in, test/tune etc. Stay tuned!

regards,
al

Oh my that engine sounds so smooth, and looks very smooth too.

Okay, I know it's the build and not the oil.

Gotta ask, what oil are you using?
